It's a fruit pie thing

In the summer we eat many fruit pies. Blueberry. Peach. Cherry. You know . . . summer fruit pies.

But this summer the old, old apple tree in our yard produced apples for the first time since we have lived here. We pruned it pretty hard a few years ago because it never did anything but provide shade. As if by magic, blossoms appeared this spring followed by apples this summer.

So, lucky for us we got to enjoy our first apple pie in the summertime.

I dare say it makes me hungry for fall.

  8. We used to have an apple tree in the back yard. It grew the yummy yellowish green tart kind of apples. My hubby had to cut it down because part of the tree was burned in a fire before we had purchased the home. Such a shame. The pie in the last picture makes me long for fall also. I think it's one of my favorite times of the year. Enjoy all your yummy pies!

  15. That looks divine! My husband was trying to push me for a while to move to a more rural area and I wasn't feeling it, until I realized I could have apple trees. Then I decided I didn't need apple trees that bad. LOL
This post is really making me rethink that.....

  16. Wow, nothing better than fresh baked pie AND from your own backyard! Our apple tree isn't doing too well, it caught some kind of fungus from our Juniper bushes...at least that what the books are telling me. It should be back to normal after some help in the Spring. My fingers are crossed!

  21. Hi Dana...i know I'm a bit behing in replying to this...but...I wanted to say...'Woohoo' on the apple tree, pies etc.
It is most rewarding and very satisying, picking and eating your own stuff.
We have a very old orchard on our farm and every summer we go mad picking fruit and then try to use it for the next year...nothing nicer.
    Enjoy your bounty!
