Right along side me

As I was sorting fabric the other day, this one said she felt like sewing.  She hasn't said that in a few years so I jumped up from what I was doing, set up a card table nearby, brought out all my 5" fabric squares and let her pick absolutely anything she wanted!

She put her favorites into ten piles of four squares each and got busy sewing them into rows.  And pressing.  And pinning and sewing them all together.  She then asked for batting and backing and set to quilting it herself too.

Once she finishes sewing on the binding she says it will lay across the top of her dresser.

Sewing together + seeing that she must have been watching me all these years = heart bursting with pride.

  8. How fun. My Girl is not in to what I am in too, now the middle boy who loves to spin yarn is total on board with the sewing and steps of it.

  11. Awesome! What a great thing to share. I keep hoping my almost 8 year old will ask to try knitting but it hasn't happened yet. I'll keep hoping!

  12. It took me 28 years to join my mom next to the sewing machine, so you're way ahead of her! Love that your girls enjoy hobbies with both parents - running on day, crafting the next!

  20. That totally makes me smile and bring tears to my eyes as I absolutely want my daughter to feel the same way and love to sew and create too. I know you must be so proud!
(PS: Love the barn quilt on your new garage!)

  21. Did you cry? I totally would've cried. Between running and sewing and everything else, your family is just so darn talented.

  22. My heart would have been bursting with pride too. My 8-yr-old has NO interest in sewing. She's done one or two things and done some hand-sewing and did let me teach her to knit, but she's just not there yet. I would cry I think if she wanted to sew with me!
