Garden Dinner

Much has been happening here since the beginning of the quilt along. But not much of it has been blogged.

Perhaps some bullet points are in order.

-- The school year ended with a bang. Field day, talent show, parties and such.

-- We took a two week trip to Missouri to help Razor's parents move out of a home they have lived in for nearly 40 years. Pictures and stories of the mayhem soon to come.

-- We came home to a garden full of weeds . . . er . . . uh . . . I mean the first zuchini of the summer. Yum. We ate the last of the spring peas right before we left and it seemed only appropriate to find a new season of vegetables to be waiting for us.

-- We will be getting two puppies tomorrow. You'll be hearing so much more about this you'll be sorry you even asked.

-- My show and festival season starts in full swing this weekend.

-- I'm giving away a Janome 6600 sewing machine here next week as part of the conclusion of the quilt along. Eeekk! I can't wait!

Wanna help me weed the garden?

Please?

  5. I have yet to get to all of the weeds, and the little buggers keep coming back! The dinner looked delish, nothing better than a grill and no clean up!

  10. You have been busy. 2yrs ago I helped my parents move out of their big house that they had been in for 20+ yrs into a retirement center. Even though my garden and flower beds need constant weeding I'll come help you with yours if I could win that sewing machine.

  12. I'd rather help you eat that delicious zucchini and tomatoes in the skillet than weed....

Hope you've had a restful week after the moving escapade. Can't wait to hear about that, the fabric haul and the puppies!

  13. I would love to help you weed your garden! We've had 4(!) hail storms this month--unheard of!--and our garden is no more. I envy you your zucchini and weeds! Good for you all!

  15. Food on the BBQ looks yummy. Weeding is the bane of my existance too, the flowers however do look lovely. I was lucky to recieve my fabric in the mail this week and just finished cutting them into strips, bought a 1/4 inch quilting foot for the machine and am already to start sewing - can't wait!!

  16. Maybe this is wierd, but I actually like weeding! It's calming for me to work outside doing yard work. So I'd love to come help!

  17. If I lived closer I would come over with gloves in hand and help you in the garden. Have fun with the new puppies.

  18. Isn't it amazing how fast weeds grow in! With all of this rain we are having here in NY it is crazy in the garden. Why can not the veggies grow that fast?

  20. I've been away all spring and am going back home in a week. I find it ominous when my husband says about our garden,"You'll have a lot of work to do." Yikes. He doesn't weed because he's afraid he'll pull up something that shouldn't be pulled up.

Can't wait to hear about the puppies!

  22. Hey, a lot of bribery going on in these comments!! "I'll weed if I win" indeed... Behave ladies! You should all do this out of the goodness of your hearts! About 20 of you would do it, lol! I... of course... am too far away.... sadly... otherwise I'd do it.. Honest!

  31. I'll help you weed, if you come help me pack! ;-)

I wish I could participate in the quilt-along, but I've already got 5 UFO's I need to get done, plus I have 3 baby quilts I need to start, plus I need to get my whole house packed in less than a month, as I lose a week & a half to my mom visiting (yay mom!)

    Maybe next time!

  32. Double trouble! Two puppies will be tons of fun for the girls - can't wait to hear more :)

    Have fun weeding!

  33. I can't wait to see the puppies! I hate weeding my garden too. I found out that putting down much really made a significant difference in the number of weeds that popped up. It was definitely worth the money spent!

  34. I did not have time to do the quilt along but I've read and watch all your post about it... I loved the Freehand stitching and since I needed to have "doudou" for my baby for her to bring to her new daycare I tought I would try it... If I come around to posting it on my blog I'll let you know! Thanks for the inspiration! I love this technique, I just needed a little push to try it so thanks again :)

  38. Dear Dana,
I too just came home from a mini vacation. Its so nice to be home and look at all my beautiful flowers (and weeds) that burst out while I was gone. I can't believe we went camping at the California Blue Grass Festival in Grass Valley, with not 1 but 2 children with broken knees and in wheelchairs.(I'm in a wheelchair too, but nobody really cares as I get to clean up and put away all this mess by myself I have always been in one) as they are all laid up. I will finish quilting my quilt this weekend I hope. Please let me come weed your garden I need a break.

  40. If the girls get two puppies they will be busy like you Dana. I can see the pups now wondering how they got up in that tree house. LOL
If I won the Janome I would give it to an experienced seamstress for just a decent sewing machine.
As far as weeds go, my tomato patch is over taken right now.

  41. Oh I am in MO! Near St Louis. Sorry to hear about the weeds. It is sooooo hot here. I look forward to next week and hopefully a break in the heat wave.

  43. I would happily weed your garden if I lived nearby, especially if I lived in an apartment like I do now! I miss weeding. I don't know why I like it but I do.
I realllly hope that I don't win the sewing machine cos I am away until the 4th and probably won't get a chance to get online and would be sad to win and then not win!

  44. Weeds...I like to think of it as my version of an English garden...just don't look to closely.

Those purple coneflowers are gorgeous. I'm wanting some of those.

  45. I'll help you weed if you come help me and my garden. :)

  46. I would love to help you weed the garden...as long as you come help me weed mine too.
I think the thistles are growing faster than the beans, cucumbers and tomatoes combined =)

  47. I love to weed. I just love the accomplishment of doing something physical and it looking great in the end, not to mention work through any frustration I have. Unfortunately I don't even have time to weed my own garden. Good luck, you sound busy too!

    ReplyDelete
  48. I'll help you weed if it will earn me 1 entry per weed for the sewing machine!

Okay, suppose not. If I lived closer I'd help you weed, though. :)

    ReplyDelete
  49. Wish we lived closer.... and then after we'd weeded yours maybe you'd come help me with mine!!! It really is a never ending CHORE (for me anyways). But hey - if you'd be interested in a few days by the beach.....

  50. I followed your lead Dana & invited my Mum over for the Day !!! Lots of weeding done as we chatted the day away side by side... just the best of days !!!
