It's the reason you have kids afterall

The reason to have kids? To put them to work I say.

It was time to plant the potatoes, onions and carrots. We already managed the snow peas several weeks ago but these vegetables require a bit more physical labor.

Boo thought she was merely going to get to run around barefoot in the dirt again. Ha!

Licious was trying every dramatic move in the book to make us feel sorry for her. Pa -lease!

Don't give me that look.

That's better. Now your getting the idea. Take the seed potato from the bucket and drop it into the ditch. Come on now. I think you can do it faster than that girls.

What? Huh? Oh don't you worry about why I'm not helping. My work here is vital to this operation. Extremely important I tell you. Just ask your father. He'll tell you that when it comes to the vegetable garden I am indispensable. I'm the reason we even have a garden. I'm the glue that holds this whole operation together! Well I am.

Ahem. Get back to work!

That's better.

Say, can you girls go get the wheelbarrow please.

NOT THAT KIND OF WHEELBARROW!

Oh, all right. I'll be quiet now.

Love you.

So much.

I love to see kids helping out with things like gardening. I was raised to believe that a little dirt and hard work never hurt anyone. We planted gardens and canned goodies for the winter. I have nothing but good memories about it. Actually I have a funny story to share. When I was a teenager, my Mom sent me to the post office to mail a few letters for her. As I walked passed my Grandparents house, my Grandfather appeared at the door and wanted to know what I was doing. I told him and he said to stop back on my way home because he wanted to show me something. So on my return I walked into their house to find Grandma reading a book and Grandpa was planted in front of the TV in "his" chair. He took one look at me and jumped up and said, follow me. Out the door we went, back to the shed, where he grabbed a shovel and a bucket which he handed to me. Then he led me back to the garden. The whole time, I'm curious what he wants to show me back there. We tred out into the middle of the garden and he turns to me and says, "OK, I'll dig them up and you put them in the bucket." He had the biggest smile on his face. He tricked me into doing his dirty work....lol, that was grandpa. Shoot, he had 8 kids, 1 daughter and 7 sons, he was used to all that free labor, so he moved on to the grandkids and since I was the only one of the older grandkids that lived in town. I was suckered into doing peas, snapping beans, de-stemming strawberries, you name it. I wish I cold go back in time and do that all over again. I miss those days and that special time with my Grandparents.

I've always called my kids "Slave Babies". That's what I had them for, hard physical labor - LOL!!

I should've kept reading before commenting on my gardeners, lol. My garden plot pales in comparison to yours!

Yep that's why I had kids. Now if they would just grow faster so I could put 'em to work!

P.S. You don't know how lucky you are to be barefoot!

Jealous of your giant garden. Yes lots of work, but Oh the vegetable joy! I do have 2 little 4x5 boxes and happy to have those. I just got the peas in, but still too cold for anything else. PLEASE show the progress of your garden, I love to see what others can produce!
