Granny Square Quilt Along

If you spend much time in blog land than you have no doubt run across pictures of this amazing Granny Square quilt from Blue Elephant Stitches.  Something about it seems to resonate with me and many, many others.  The scrappy patchwork-ness about it.  The bright happy colors.  The fact that it indeed looks like crocheted granny squares and yet it's a sewn patchwork quilt.

As we were kicking around ideas for the next quilt along over in my flickr group (By the way, to date we've made eleven quilts over there. My stars! Eleven!) Quilt Dad, John, suggested this quilt and we all immediately jumped on the idea.  I contacted Jolene at Blue Elephant Stitches to see if she minded we do a quilt along with her block tutorial and she was gracious enough to encourage it.

Please say you'll join me and the 1,600 others in our flickr group as we start our Granny Square Quilt Along on March 1, 2012.  There are already some options and fabric requirements listed so get on over there and check it out!

A special thank you to Jolene for letting our group attack this quilt like a bunch of hungry hyenas.  It's going to be a blast.

Totally made my day! I love the granny square quilt. I saw one a few years ago in a quilt book on color theory. I have a wedding quilt and twin size and baby size in various stages of sewing but surely I can fit this in too!!

So yes I will definately be quilting along. I am even going to use my favorite fabrics, I am not doing a scrappy version, I saw someone on flickr do a non scrappy version and I loved it.

What the heck are you trying to do to me, Woman? I am far too busy for this, but think I need to JUST DO IT! Hmmmm....the block idea appeals to me because I can just make ONE here or there, and not feel the pressure of a WHOLE QUILT, you know? I am convincing myself the more that I type!

How many QAL can I join and still stay sane? I want to do this so much but might have to pin it and join a little later.

I want to join in, these granny squares keep popping up in my visits to blogs. So when I saw this today I was excited. Plus a great way to use up some scraps.
I noticed in an earlier post you have daffodils blooming, I'm in NC and mine have been blooming for 3 weeks now!

I haven't joined a QAL yet but I am very much tempted to join this one. I have a box of fabrics that were my grandmothers when she made Raggedy Ann and Andy dolls and I've been wondering what to do with them. I thought perhaps that I might make a few wallhangings with them, one each for me and my mom and one each for my aunt and uncle. I came across this block the other day and have been thinking about it ever since for this project.

So my biggest question, along with the obvious one of whether or not I can do this with all the other projects I have in the works, work and the kiddos etc is what is the pace for this like. If I do join in I would at least like to sort of keep up.

Oh my gosh, I adore your quilt on the washing line, I would love one just like that. I've just crocheted my hubby a comoflage (army) coloured cover for his nook tablet, as the last one shattered. But I think a quilted ipad or nook tablet cover will look stunning to protect the glass on these expensive items,as the covers in the shops are soo expensive.
I've also crocheted a little orange owl cover for my nieces little Tracfone LG800G smart prepaid phone which cost her $50 as she wanted to protect the large touch screen from getting scratched or broken. I just sewed a little oval shaped pink piece of material on the phone cover for the tummy and put little buttons on for the eyes. Now her friends also want owl covers.
