Singer Featherweight 221
The most surprising thing happened.
On January 12, 2014 I posted a silly little thing on Facebook where I said:
Need help from any of my sewing friends.... Will any one of you knock some sense into me and tell me to get over my obsession and unnecessary want of a vintage Singer Featherweight sewing machine? Please? I need one like I need another hole in my head but can't stop wanting one.
Later that day I got a private message from a friend offering to trade (::gulp::) a Singer Featherweight 221 for one of my quilts.
Trade. You heard me right.
And the sweet, sweet soul that offered up this trade is my friend Elaine.
Then on January 20, 2014 the above pictured gem was delivered to my house.
It's been sitting on my kitchen counter since Monday and it's like I don't dare touch it. It sits there prettily and I just look at it with awe. The awe is one part admiration of it's beauty and ninety-nine parts amazement at the generous, giving, trusting spirit of Elaine.
I've said it before and I'm going to say it again. Quilters are the nicest people in the universe.

ReplyDeleteWhat a great trade for both of you.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations! I'm sure your new machine has found the perfect home!
ReplyDeleteI'm so jealous! I have wanted one of these forever. Lucky you to be able to get one for trade.
ReplyDeleteOh my that is beautiful, I am in the same boat as you, I want one so badly but honestly I already have two perfectly wonderful sewing machines. They are just special let's face it.
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to hear how you like sewing with it.
Love when a trade makes everyone happy :0)
Happy Sewing
Enjoy! Can't wait to see what you make on it!
ReplyDeleteEnjoy the darling featherweight.
ReplyDeleteSo tickled you have one. Now to wait and see what you see with it.
No featherweight for me but I have the 160th anniversary version.
I keep telling myself I don't need an 8th machine.....really I don't but am I listening? lol
Quilty people are most definitely the best people :) What a beautiful machine, looks like it's in lovely condition! Can't wait to hear what you think of stitching with it!
ReplyDeletewow that's super nice and a win for both of you! Will you bring it to Sew South? Can't wait to hear how you like it. :)
ReplyDeleteHaha... I was just thinking how much I love the one you brought to Sew South and there popped up Jennifer's comment!:)
ReplyDeletebtw....love the new header!:)
How sweet! I am obsessed with them, too! They are very hard to find around here and when I do find one it is really expensive and in terrible shape. I even have hubby looking for one for me!
ReplyDeleteLucky you!

I love it!! That is so awesome! I got a serger in a trade and it's one of my favorite things ever! I want one of these too - but will have to wait until we stop moving! Miss you friend!
ReplyDeleteI don't know what it is about those Featherweights, but I want one too! So happy that you have such a treasure*. (*The machine and the friend.)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! Just beautiful. Love the machine and am so glad you got it. What goes around comes around and you are a treasure.
ReplyDeleteI just had to have one too! Daisy Marie found me last year and we are such good buddies!
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you got one. Aren't they just the most delightful thing ever?!?
ReplyDeleteI really want one too...and hopefully soon I will find one. But in the meantime I'm so happy for you! It looks like a wonderful machine!!!
ReplyDeleteCongrats and good trade! I have one just like yours, inherited it from MIL, and I've never even plugged it in, I just have it on display in the guest room, on a treadle table. They are lovely little machines!
ReplyDeleteI have three featherweights but I still would have traded a quilt for the fourth one.
ReplyDeletequilters are the best! The Featherweight is a beauty. I hope you have lots of fun with her.
ReplyDeleteSquee!
ReplyDeleteI've been wanting a treadle Singer for ages. Two days after a friend busted one up she discovered that I had been lusting after one for ages.
I couldn't believe she broke the thing up - destroyed the cabinet, everything... sigh. She could've mentioned it to me - she's tried to pass on so many other things to me!
How absolutely sweet!!! :)
ReplyDeleteYou are going to love this little beauty. I have my grandmother's and I learned to sew on it. Your quilts are well worth the trade. I think you both got a good deal. Friends are a blessing indeed.
ReplyDeleteI feel like you should name it.
ReplyDeleteSomething sort of headmistress or governess-y
:)
I AM SO JEALOUS!!Don't you love social media!!!
ReplyDeleteDid you get a case, attachments etc??
If I didn't already have one, I'd trade you quilt charms for it! LOL (They should be finished SOON!)
What a fun trade!! Have you started sewing with it yet?
ReplyDeleteYou will never regret having this little gem. I have two blacks and one green. Love them all!
ReplyDeleteYou both scored on this trade!!
