DIY Barn Track Door

I told you recently how we painted the play room and did something really cool with the recessed nook.  I also told you that we got a pair of old matching doors.  Well, that recessed nook and those old doors have something in common.

We used the doors to turn the nook into a closet by means of a DIY barn track door.

When this house was originally built, this room was the master bedroom.  However, at some point a bedroom and bathroom were added that now serve at the master suite.  So . . . this room has five doors. One to the current master bedroom.  One to a large walk-in, cedar lined closet.  One coming from the hallway into the room (since this used to be a bedroom before the addition it made sense to have a door.) One from the office.  And one from an additional smaller closet.  With so many doors we opted to paint the barn track door the wall color so as to blend more with the walls than to scream, "Hey look!  Now there are seven doors!"

The barn track doors were sanded, primed and painted.  We then used a metal strap (for the lack of a better term) to attach the doors together on the back side.  The large hinges on the front were reclaimed from the old large swinging doors on our actual barn to use here.  They, of course, help hold the doors together but are more decorative than anything.

With some plumbing pipe, pipe fittings, flanges, casters and I-bolts, we were able to fashion a very functional and affordable barn track door.

It just took FINALLY finding those old doors.  Whoot!
