Spring cleaning and best friends


This friendship was cemented before either was even in school.  They are similar yet different enough to have that perfect balance necessary for an enduring bond.  I need only to see the sideways glance of either one of them to know that they've hatched a plan for her to spend the night here or mine there. 


We moved around a fair bit when I was a kid.  I always wanted to settle in and call a place home when I had children.  I wanted them to go to school their entire kindergarten through 12th grade years in one place.  To have friends from the the start of it all.  Seeing it manifested in these two makes me find myself watching them when they don't know that I am.  And breathing deep, belly filling breaths as a smile creeps across my face.

These girls have staked a claim to the once abandoned tree house.  They've cleaned, sanded, taken parts off, hammered new parts together, painted and made the place theirs.  A bonfire with lots of adults and kids is planned for this weekend.  And a secret stash of water guns may or may not be hidden up in that tree house in anticipation.

    Sweet, nothing better than a best friend to grow up with! Like you, I never had those roots and wasn't able to give them to my kids either.
    I can feel your joy in giving it to your children though :0).
    Hey, that tree house needs a zip line to the ground like I had with my four brothers!

    My oldest daughter made a lifelong friend in kindergarten, and now 25 years later they share the same last name and live in a 2 family house together. Coincindentally, they share a birthday, one in the am and one in the pm at the exact time! They married cousins, share a last name and have so far shared being maids of honor and this week her Bff asked her to be godmother to her baby. It's the best thing ever to have a BFF to share life with.

    That's the first thing our girl did when she came home after 3 1/2 years in the UK...she had a sleepover with her 3 best buds she has known since 1st grade!:)

    I think a treehouse is in our future at hubby's parents...his dad got a treehouse book for his birthday yesterday!:)

    Oh my goodness. My almost 9 year old is begging for a tree house. We have the space just not the handy-ness required to build one. He would be in heaven at your house!

    I hope my kids find that friend as well. I think my girl is good to go. I'm not sure about the boy as his friends from daycare are in different classes from him at school, but he does have a couple of boys that he plays with and goofs off with at school.

    There is nothing like those friends you grew up with. Those two look like they are always hatching a plan of some sort. LOL

    My kids' best friends they met in kindergarten and first grade. My son's was his best man at his wedding and when the marriage broke up he was there to support him, as well. My daughter was her bf's maid of honor. So wonderful to watch these bonds survive and evolve. I lived in the same house for most of my life, and I wanted that for my kids.

    That treehouse is AWESOME!!! I want one!
