All I need

Camping with the Brownies was just what I needed. A gentle reminder that nature calms me. That my children are truly remarkable. And that I love my cozy king sized bed.

The troop leaders were amazingly creative and well organized. Every detail was thought of and the 12 Brownies in attendance (wonder where I got the idea that there was going to be 33??!!) had the time of their lives. Nature crafts. Scavenger hunts. And, a well equipped kitchen where each girl got to make her own dinner that was cooked right on the coals of the fire in a tin foil pouch.

In a way I wish that I had brought my camera and taken shots of the running and jumping and bug squishing. And the sticky marshmellowy faces and grass stained knees. But sometimes, just sometimes, I like to just breathe it all in and forget about the lens.

I feel refreshed and centered.

And a little itchy and sore.

This sounds like a really fun time. I was in brownies for a short while when I was a kid and we had one camping trip that I just absolutely will never forget!

Refreshed, centered, itchy and sore. That made me LOL.

Sounds lovely. I was never a Brownie, but the girls camp I went to during my early teenage years remain some of my most rich memories. Cramming marshmallows in my mouth and trying to say "chubby bunny" to camp songs and summer friendships. Fun.

I co-led a brownies troop (2nd graders) last year. I had to give it up this year, I am just too busy with the horse. But it was fun, I never knew 2nd grade girls had SO much energy! I never got to camp with them, I had family plans the weekend they went and I kind of regret not going. Good memories are made by kiddos camping! I'm craving marshmallow s'mores now, thanks! ;)

We didn't do much camping when I was a child, so my first real camping trip was as a troop leader. A week at Girl Scout Camp, with one night camping out in the woods away from the camp was awesome. I learned as much as the girls did.

sounds like a fun time all around!

I think a weekend away with 4 girl scouts would be like 33 by the end of the weekend.. where do kids get all this energy?? or is it that I am old?? (well 38 is old to my kids)

Ahhh, that sounds like a wonderful time. I was never in Brownies or Girl Scouts and I wasn't blessed with any daughters so I REALLY hope to get to do those things with my niece someday. I LOVE to camp and just be out in nature, except when it's more than 85 degrees!

Sounds like it was refreshing even if it was a lot of work. Nothing like camping and cooking outside. I remember going with my daughters on scout camps. Fun times.

I pop in from time to time to see what you are up to. I really enjoy your photos, you are so talented. I hear you loud and clear about not taking the camera. Time to time my husband will ask.."Did you take lots of pictures" and to that I reply, no, I wanted to be a part of it all!

Dana,
I just received an e-mail from my sister-in-law that had this as one of it's inspirational quotes and I thought of you. I think this is the plan you use in your life and that is why you are so cheerful. You are an inspiration to others, great going.

"I have learned there is little I can do
in my life that will make me truly happy.
I must depend on God to make
me happy and to meet my needs.
When a need arises in my life,
I have to trust God to supply
according to HIS riches.
I have learned most of the time
I don't need half of what I think I do.
He has never let me down.
Since I learned that 'Secret', I am happy.'
