Much to do . . . and a giveaway too!

I'm not one for quilt patterns. Not that there is anything wrong with patterns, mind you. It's just I don't have the brain to decipher the cutting directions and sewing instructions.

It's true. When I was a senior in high school my parents took me to Chicago to the Johnson O'Connor Research Foundation to find my aptitudes. After a couple of days of groovy tests and whatnot we sat on the opposite side of a gargantuan mahogany desk and listened to the results. Among other revealing insights, they revealed I'm not spatial. My mother has assured me time and time again that I am in fact special. I'm just not spatially inclined.

Hence my phobia of patterns.

Anywho . . .

I've been working on a quilt from a pattern called Bento Box. And I'm making a king sized quilt. It requires 224 small blocks like these.

Which will then be assembled to make 56 large blocks like these. (Somebody shoot me!)

So, the entire king sized quilt is made up of 50+ different Amy Butler prints. I used a small bit of this decorator weight fabric from her August Fields line. But I have four 1/2 yard cuts left over. I thought you might like it.

And making a king sized quilt means lots of scraps leftover. Along with the August Fields yardage, I thought I'd also give away all the scraps. Cause scraps are good. Especially if you are crafty like Amy or AmandaJean. So I'll give you all these scraps too.

And, I'm getting ready to start a brand new quilt made with nothing but the delectable Daisy Chain line so I'll throw in all of those scraps too.

Interested? Leave a comment for your chance to win. I'll let the random number generator pick a winner on Wednesday, February 25, 2009 sometime after 6pm.

Good luck.
-dana

Hey Miss D-
I'm the same way. I hate patterns. I get so bored cutting out the same size squares over and over. I like "winging it" and using the scraps I have however they are left. I just posted a pic of a scrap quilt I made. It was fun. I had no idea what I was going to do when I started, and I love the end result. Hope all is well!

I love that quilt pattern. I'm not yet brave enough to try a king size quilt, though.

I almost fainted with all that scrappy wonderfulness!

And I read your "I can smell it" entry and I have to add that this past week I planted some basil and cilantro seed indoors under my grow light. I know I have about 8 more weeks before I can even think about gardening outside, but hopefully these seedlings will give me my needed 'fix' until then.

Pick me, pick me!

I love the Bento Box pattern. I never bought the pattern I made my own up with 10 inch squares. So much easier than her pattern (or so I've been told by those who've used it). I'm not a pattern girl either.

Is that part of the AB we swapped a million years ago?! I still haven't done anything with mine. Well, oh yea, I did. I forgot. I used mine on a sample I had to make up before I had the printed fabric for a pattern I did for RJR. It actually turned out very cute!

I love the bento box! But looks like it could be very time consuming! Especially in a king sized. But I love the fabrics, almost especially the one that isn't amy butler..... do tell who is it?

Love scraps and want to make a scrap quilt soon, so I can only see this as a great benefit! Thanks for the giveaway, Hope a lucky sewer like me wins!

Wow a King Size Quilt you are very ambitious. It looks good already. Thank you for a chance to win these scraps. I used to sit next to my grandma as a little and watch her sew. When I got older I learned how to sew myself. My grandma was the Queen of scraps. She3 would even trade boxes of scraps with her sister and cousins. They would mail the boxes of scraps across country and be so excited to get each others scraps..lol. How fun does that sound. I got my love of fabric from her and I know the value of a scrap because of her as well. Good luck with finishing this quilt.

Oh I am drooling over just the scraps.. if you post down under I am definitely in!

Just a quick question from a quilting novice... if you are making a king sized quilt for the backing do you just join several pieces of fabric together to get one big enough?

Trish said...

Craziness. That is insanity. Still, I'd love to win the scraps of your insanity. It would likely all add up to more than my own sanity. :} Plus, what pretty scraps they are!
