Substituting

For the past two days I've been a substitute teacher. For a kindergarten class of 16. Whew. They about wore me out.

Each time I do fill in for a sick teacher for any length of time I am struck by several things that I see. Some parents do all that they can to help their child succeed. And their efforts are obvious.

Other parents don't do much. Even for their kindergartner. And that is painfully obvious too.

So couple the kindergarten teaching with wrapping up my duties as cookie mom of the Girl Scout troop cookie sales last night and I'm beat.

And Jezebel is glad I'm back home. Even if she is rolling her eyes at me.

Enjoy your time back at home. Sounds like it is time to bake more bread! Lucky Jezebel, what a cool cat tent. Our cats would be fighting over time in there for sure!

I'm always caught off guard when a teacher says thank you for doing our part at home - I can't imagine not! Sounds like you may need a vacation :)

Groovy girls have the best accessories!

I know what you mean about parents, some take full responsibility for their children, some don't, it's really sad. Oh, and I have to know where you got that cute little kitty tent!

Subbing is hard work! You need some alone time with Jezebel and your sewing machine - unwind. Glad you survived!

I'm getting a little OCD about checking your blog for the upcoming 'attraction' ;).

Oh and I'm totally jealous that your mom commented on your blog!! My mom reads - but she's more of a blurker.

Wow! You teach too? Is there anything that you don't do? No wonder you're pooped!

I love hearing about other peoples' teaching experiences. Today was a day I'd be glad not to repeat. Rest up, lady. Have a great one, tomorrow!!

Hi Dana! I have missed your blog so much, but I'm happy to say that TOMORROW we are getting a new computer, woo-hoo!!! And then I can check in every day, and that will be so nice :-)

Teaching is such a wonderful opportunity. So nice that you get to do it as a sub. I taught school in Brooklyn, NY right out of college and it was so wonderful to be with the kids each day.

Love the cozy kitty hide-out...the look on her furry little face is priceless!

Have a great day!

You go, girl!!! Every time I even think about criticizing my child's kindy teacher, I get my butt in there and volunteer. I am instantly reminded of how challenging it is to actually TEACH a roomful of diverse kids. For the most part, I believe that teachers are amazing people even when their style doesn't match my own. You rock in my book... now, go rest.

It is so sad to see a kid with parents who really don't seem to care. That is one of the reasons my oldest daughter refused to even think of becoming a teacher.

Oh, I know that heartbreaking phenomenon...I used to teach high school back in the day. I think it was one reason I wanted to have kids of my own.

I still see it when I go in to read with the kids in Caroline's kindergarten class. It's painfully obviousk, as you said, and just plain painful.

Thank you for leaving such a kind comment on my blog the other day. Still wishing we were neighbors. :)

I made one of these houses for my cat and she hates it, won't even go in. So it will be one those things to give away.
