Does it get any better than cousins?

Back in June we hit the open road bound for Missouri. We had a job to do. A mission if you will.

We had a calling. A charge. An important pursuit.

COUSINS!!

Not just any cousins. Their only cousins. Their only cousins whom they hadn't seen in almost two years.

We had other work to do while we were there. Razor's parents were moving out of a home they had lived in for almost 40 years. So while Razor and I did the dirty work, the girls got to revel in absolute cousin-ness.

While the grownups held yard sales, the girls sold lemonade. Or managed to convince one or two of us to take them to the pool.

And we all took a break long enough to drive to Kansas City to see the Royals take on the St. Louis Cardinals.

Cousins are good stuff. And I'm so glad my girls have them.

We miss them darn ole cousins already!!

Cousins ARE awesome. I know my girls LOVE their cousins and miss them terribly...and we only live 10 minutes from them!

Looks like a nice trip was had by all.

And I LOVE the lemonade stand sign!

I have to second that! Cousins are awesome, and "cousin-like" love ones too! How was that for you? It must have been quite emotional to help two people leave their home of 40 years. I really can't even imagine... one home, forty years. wow.

yea cousins! yea baseball! my kids have NO cousins near their ages, but they are in LOVE with all the teenagers and i am hoping there will be some babies a-comin' soon as my bro is turning 40 this week. get a move on man! :-)

My boys have 19 cousins on one side of the family, and none on the other (c'mon sister, hurry up!) so it is chaos when we are all together.

I agree, cousins are the best, and in my family, I am super lucky to absolutley adore the sisters and brothers-in-law that made it possible.

cousins are wonderful! That had to have been a big move! 40 years is a lifetime in one house- so many wonderful memories. Happy summer time and thanks again for the quilt a long- I am working on mine this week and hope to get it all done by next week. You are a grand inspiration and thank you for sharing everything you do!

Looks like the girls had a great trip. 40 years is a long time, I imagine it was a BIG job packing them up. We love our cousins at this house too. My sister's boys live 4 miles from us. Gina is surrounded by boys though. I guess she will always be the princess LOL!

Who could resist such cute girls selling lemonade? Glad they had fun. Cousins are the best!

Keep them as close as you can... I'm kind of estranged from mine, just from all of us growing up and moving into our own lives and various towns around the country. I miss having that familial connection a lot, though. And when you try to meet up after years of being apart as adults, well, it just doesn't work out so well...

looks like you guys had tons of fun!
I agree with amylouwho, who can resist cute girls selling lemonade?

ITA!!!! My Abigail doesn't see her cousins often but when they get to play together they play HARD. I love seeing them all together since I wasn't close to my cousins growing up.

LOVE YOUR BLOG, btw. You are very inspiring!!!

I have just 2 cousins and my girls have just 2 too. I marvel at families who have crowds of cousins. We get to see our cousins every few years too. Nice visit when you can get them.

I agree cousins are so important - My children are lucky to have many of them - and we all live relatively close to visit often - it really is so fun watching them all interact - especially when there are 12 of them under 8!!!

I only have 4 cousins and the oldest one is younger than my youngest brother. We only got to see them once a year during summer vacation. My children, on the other have TONS of cousins and I can truly say that they love them all. Now as adults, they still keep in touch with all of them even tho' many, many, many miles separate them...family ties are strong;)

I saw a few of my cousins this weekend...some I had not seen in many years. It was like it had been only a few days instead of years. We were all fast friends once again. Cousins are great.

I'm lucky enough to have seen my own cousins quite often growing up, and my sister lives in town, so my son sees his cousins almost every week!

WE love cousins, too, and had some fun in the Smokies with ours at the end of June.

Love the lemonade stand photo!

BTW, we spent the day up your way again this week. Went to visit a friend teaching at the Folk School and decided to venture out and explore.

I live in Missouri in the St Louis Area. It sounds like you were closer to the Kansas area. If you are ever in St Louis you have to try Ted Drewes custard. Very tasty custard!

Cousins are indeed awesome. We are off to revel in cousiness ourselves soon. My son thinks Albert Pujols is even better than Santa Claus. I wish we lived closer so we could see the Royals take on the Cardinals!

My cousins are all old enough to be my parents, so I missed out. (Some have already died!)
I don't envy you the cleaning out a house of 40 years of stuff. We had to do that for my Dad after 35 years. We found all sorts of stuff. Receipts from a trip in 1962! A wallet not used since the early 60s! Stuff! I know where my magpie tendencies come from!

What a beautiful road trip ...cousin's are the best! Looks like everybody had a glorious time! I do however, don't envy the cleaning and yard sale of 40 years+! I made a long distant move about four years ago and promised myself I would never do it again! I just couldn't imagine where all those boxes came from, or what in the world was in them all!

They are making wonderful memories to look back on!

I don't have many cousins myself--and those I do have, I have no idea where they are and have forgotten their names because of the age difference between them and me.

However, my daughter has cousins and keeps in contact with them, even as adults, and I love that my only child has those familial ties.

I have 5 brothers and sisters and yet we have no cousins! Both of my parents were only children. Now my kids have LOTS of cousins on both sides of the family. I love when some are able to get together.
