Finding my rhythm

It is midsummer and I still haven't found my rhythm. Hit my stride. Figured out how to manage to keep my daughters sufficiently busy, visit with my husband, keep my puppies and find time for me.

It might have something to do with the devilish look in Harpo's eye.

But I can't blame it all on the dogs. I don't know. But one thing I do know is when I'm feeling this way it helps to start and complete something creative all in one day.

And even though I have two other quilts started that I'm itching to work on, it felt good to imagine, create and complete this mini quilt today. It'll be a thank you gift. For the puppies. From friends I love more and more each day.

And even though they are awesome quilters and my piddly little machine quilting can't even compare to what they do, I think they might like it. I can already hear Russ' hearty laugh when he sees it.

The quilt is charming and your new babies are so sweet. Don't worry...if you're like me you'll find your rhythm at about the same time things are about to change again!

I came upon this blog almost by accident and am so grateful that I did. I am a reader from Sri Lanka and was fascinated by your instructions for the strip piecing which makes it look very simple! I am definitely buying fabric to do this but as a full single bed size quilt! Thanks once again.

Your puppy really is so incredibly cute. Makes me want a puppy...and I don't want a puppy! (If that makes sense.)

The mini quilt is great. I understand that great feeling that comes with completing a project, start to finish, in one day. It provides great momentum for getting more things done.

I'm sure Russ will love it. I have been following their blog and when I make comments Russ responds and I can really tell he has a great disposition.

I too am very thankful for the time you took to organize and run the quilt-along for us all.

THhen it was worth it! Especially if you were looking to get a laugh?

The puppies are obviously in need of a bit more attention than your sewing machine!

I feel you.....something about summer just shuts me down...maybe it's the fact that we still haven't put in our A/C!:) But it has been a really cool summer up here.
I finally...finally...pin basted my ORB quilt! I had to do it on a huge piece of cardboard because I don't have a big enough hard surface floor!:) I have been putting it off because I was scared of my new darning foot and walking foot. Well, I have gotten over that hump and tried both....FMQ is fun but scary!:) Straight line is where I think I am going to start for my first machine quilt, I think I'll use the painter's tape to start off then use the edge guides that came with the walker....ugh...still a bit scared to start...don't want to mess up!:)

Those pups are just too darn adorable! Sometimes you just need to have a quick project to get you back into the rhythm.

It seems like there is always something to do during the summer. There is no cure for the blues as a good project - completed!!! It looks great too. If they don't appreciate it, you can send it my way!!!!

Oh that is really sweet.....exactly the kind of thank you's I love even though I can make it myself.....its the love that goes into it that counts.

You are right, there is simply something about doing a little project start to finish that makes one feel successful like.....okay now I can do anything!

Happy Sewing and loving up on those puppies...they are so darn cute!

I am so glad to see that you made a quilt for your babies. I have been debating on making something for our dogs because anytime someone else's quilt gets left laying around you can always find a dog on it. Now I don't feel so silly doing it. :)

Oh, if I could only find time to complete a small quilt as yours. It's so cute ...and I must add. I don't know which is the cuties ...the puppy or the quilt? I think I have to go with the puppy, who could resist that little face. But your quilt is coming in a very close second and I love the machine quilting. I want to try my hand at machine quilting myself, but so far ...Russ keeps getting my quilt tops!
Happy Puppy, Happy Quilting!

I feel better when I get a finish too! Did it help? You took a lot on in one summer lady - I hope you find a little more time for you tomorrow :)

Ah, puppies... The best part of teaching puppy obedience classes is getting to play "pass the puppy" and getting to snuggle each one! I haven't made my own dogs a quilt yet, but I have made 3 quilts as prizes for a dog show and have started on the quilts for next year's show. And I'm about to finish up another quilt on the quilt-along pattern but made in all batik fabrics.

Adorable puppy pics!

Yep, sometimes the unfinished objects have to take a back seat to instant gratification. Does a girl good.
