This is what the driver's seat in my minivan looks like. It is the result of years of abuse. Mostly due to sitting on it with a wet swimming suit from the pool in the summer I believe.
Not very pretty. To say the least.
I have been to every auto parts store and big box discount store in a 200 mile radius looking for something cute to cover it with. I've even trolled ebay and etsy in search of the perfect cover.
Then I had a light bulb moment. . .
I quilted it very heavily with horizontal and vertical lines. And it is being kept in place with that rubbery stuff that you use under area rugs on hard wood floors to keep them from sliding. So far so good.
And very cute to boot.

wow! very cute. but seriously, i think showing ANY pic of the inside of your minivan takes more guts than pics of yourself in the a.m. YOUR pic was pretty mild, but the inside of my minivan looks like we are homeless and keep squirrels. seriously, it's BAD.
Ha, that's awesome! I love the before and after shots. What a fun way to cruise around, with a quilted seat pad.
Thank you, Dana -- lightbulb moment! I am beyond the minivan days but have the same well used seat in my Jeep... off to create a cover that will certainly look better than the duct tape I was going to use
I agree....very, very cute!!! So much prettier than anything you could get in an auto parts store. Thanks for sharing with the rest of us.....you never know when we will need the same fix.
FABULOUS idea. I love it.
Great idea! I need to employ it for my computer chair...the foam is sticking thru!
That is a great idea. We should all make one to keep out seats from getting that way!
LMAO Elissa, sounds like my van, my two year old has put things in there I still havent found...I love the seat cover Dana. I am going to have to copy your idea. Thanks
We need one of these for our truck!!!! EXCELLENT idea... and I will be making one soon, for sure!!!
Genius! And so very pretty.
Very cute! What a great idea!
Very practical! And so much better than ugly leather or vinyl. Probably warmer in the winter, too.
Ooh. I may have to do this. It's better than the duct tape I have on there now.
what a fabulous idea. I just may have to do this as well! Thanks.
Great idea! :) Thank you for sharing it!
Now that has got to make you smile every time you open the door! Awesome!
Great remedy! Well done!
Necessity in the mother of invention... right! Now hanging down the side from the seat you could put pockets for things like snacks, tissues and change :0).
Did you attach the rubber stuff or is the quilt just sitting on a mat of it?
Looks terrific!
Happy sewing
Love! Way to be inventive.
How cute! That cover is so much better than anything you could've bought, great idea!
That looks super cute! And your mention of the rubbery stuff for area rugs made a lightbulb go on for me... now I want to make quilted area rugs. :)
Seriously, when did you come and take a picture of my driver's seat. And why was the cute quilt not left. Hmm. I guess I'll have to make my own. Super great idea, those lame store bought car seat covers never stay put!
Very cute!! I'm going to borrow this idea when the cushion on my sewing chair finally gives out!
I absolutely LOVE it! I really wish we had leather seats because our fabric ones are stained terrible! Maybe I need to whip some of these up too! Especially to use under the car seats!
You could also attach some elastic straps with velcro on the ends and wrap them around the under side of the seat to hold it in place. I'd rather look at that than a regular seat any day!
That's a great idea, Dana and it looks really nice. Now, keep your doors locked so nobody swipes it!
I've been planning to make something like that for my office chair, it's so imbedded with cat hairs, it's disgusting and nothing I use gets it off. At least that I could toss in the wash!
I am definitely trying this idea. My seat (in my car, not on my body) has the same problem. Well, my other seat could use some help too, but I don't think patchwork is the answer...
Leave it to you to come up with this solution -- gotta love ya, Dana. :)
Hugs,
Birgit
Clever girl!
Necessity IS the mother of invention, but add fabric and creativity and it's a WOW! Looks comfy, too.

I love it! What a great idea. I may be needing to do the same thing in the near future.
And the photos of your girls are smashing indeed.
Oh I want one too! Not that my seat needs one, I just love the colourfulness of it. Isn't it great to be able to make such useful things?
Now how can two beautiful girls look so dreadful?!! That makeup and hair is outrageous!
Yes. VERY cute!!
I have a seat just like that! What a great idea and you get to look at pretty fabrics each time you get in! May have to give that one a try Dana, thanks!
The same thing happened to my last truck and I never thought of such a cute idea. I will surely make one myself next time. Thanks for a great lightbulb moment!
Boy do great minds think alike! I have measured my seats already and I am working on plans for quilted seat covers for my seats in my car.
I have a Jaguar (no it's not bragging either it's a 2003)and it is, I am sure the last vehicle that I will ever get and it has white leather seats. If I have on dark colors they will fade on the white leather and I have to get them covered soon to protect them.
I love the colors that you chose it looks great! I would be so proud to sit my bum down on that one ;-)
Thanks for the inspiration!!!!!
Wow! I love it! The seat in my car is beginning to show wear too. I need to make one NOW before it gets worse. Thanks so much for the wonderful idea!
Blessings,
Patty
My husband bought new leather and he is recovering his seats that looked just like that. It is way more of a project than I would ever take on. I like your idea better.
Only a quilter! I bet it's comfy too.
I think this is a fabulous idea! Very clever thinking. I am going to make some for my seats now, before they get ruined like the ones in the car. The great thing is these are a good scrapbuster AND washable. Fabulous.
