Reflections

I think I say this every season, or family schedule shift, but it takes me awhile to find my groove. To figure out how to arrange my day to get everything done that I want to get done.

The girls went back to school at the end of August and here I sit in late October still trying to figure it all out. How can I workout, take care of the puppies, have a clean house and laundry, blog, craft, make soap, pick up children, run to clogging or Girl Scouts depending on the day, look over homework, cook dinner, mow the grass, and stop and breathe?

Some days I feel like I've got it all down. And others . . . well . . . not so much.

Lists help. So my list for this weekend includes quilting my Flea Market Fancy quilt, going to our school's annual Halloween bash, making some apple pies and Pumpkin Putz cookies and hiking with the kids and dogs.

Wish me luck.

I'm in the same boat, having just brought a third baby into the world... there's so much out there to enjoy, and I just want to enjoy all of it.

mmm...pumpkin putz cookies!
yum!
I know what you mean about finding your groove. I haven't sewn in over a week because life is happening...and it isn't happening in my sewing room!

Ain't life grand? haha good luck with your list. I'm thinking of my list but too scared to make it!! I am going to plant our vege garden this weekend. It's Labour Weekend this weekend here in New Zealand.

oh, dana, are we all in this same space right now? (seems several bloggers are struggling with this.) perhaps it is an autumn thing, as we all get into the new rhythms of winding down the year while gearing up to a new school year, with time pressures of various types, placed on us by others.
i, too, am working to sort it all out.

The moment I starting reading this I thought...right...my one little guy keeps me so busy...I am still adjusting and he is almost 7 months...so many things stacked up in my head to do and not enough time or energy to do them in. Best of Luck...Cheers to getting your groove back!

I was thinking the same thing today! We have a new routine and I'm struggling to find a new normal.

I need to start making lists again.

Good luck on crossing those projects off!

Dana I just rewrote my list of art "to do" last night & it helped me feel a little better. Can't wait to see the new quilt.

Lists do wonders, even if you rewrite the same list the next day. As you check things off, you feel better. (and sleep always makes me feel better too)

I haven't figured it out either! I just can't seem to get myself organized enough to accomplish everything! Time goes so fast.........

The very best of luck Dana... you are NOT alone! :-)

The short answer to how can I do it all? is... "You can't". You'll have to prioritize, lists help, and forget about the rest! Enjoy what you do do and don't feel guilty about what you don't.

Now... mmm.... must remember the above myself, lol!!

Rushing off....

Let us know when you get the secret to it all figured out :)
I feel the same way. And lists are my friend, it is so satisfying to me to be able to cross something off for the day, even if it is just doing the dishes.

I can't wait to see your flea market fancy quilt!

You know you can't do it all and that is the frustrating part! Some days are amazing with all you can get done and others....well not so productive. It all equals out in the end! Be happy and grateful for all that you have, keep trying your best and it all adds up to a pretty happy life.
STOP beating yourself up with negative words...it doesn't help.
Have you heard that country song "You're gonna miss this"?
All true :0)!
Happy sewing

Life is like that, so many things you want to do or should do but all you can do is focus on what makes sense at the time and remember to enjoy your time.

You seem to be pretty amazing to me! Just remember, don't sweat the small stuff. In the end, that's all it is ... stuff. I'm looking for some interested persons who would like to play along with a Pay It Forward with me. Come visit me at my blog: www.auntdonnasworld.blogspot.com

Fingers crossed here!

well, we all manage to get it done, maybe not in order or the way we wanted or imaged but somehow it all gets done.
i am having a friend over monday night, i think she is spending two nights and we are going to play...we each have 25 yards of mercerized cotton and we will dye yardage but also bringing out thermofax machine, hope its still working, and make some screens. iwill be teaching her to mix up print paste and then adding procion dye concentrates we make earlier...make own fabric paint. is fabulously fun and fabrics come out so awesome. should be a very good week. yipee

Right on that page with you. Sometimes it helps me to think maybe there is no groove. Or that grooves have been pared down to a 24-hour limit.

I've got to say that I'm in the same boat and just hadn't quite put my finger on it until I read your post. I am getting my bee-hind kicked by the number of responsibities, and it's all good, but oh boy! I keep wondering why is it that I'm feeling so crazy, but all the commitments and the schedules just add up. It's hard to post on a blog (or check anyone else's), let alone sew, and did you mention cleaning? Yep. It's a dusty house around here.

Thanks so much for the Pumpkin Putz cookie recipe. Made them for the Halloween parties our family attended this weekend and they were a huge hit. The recipe is definetly one we'll make again. Thanks!
