Winter in October . . . say what?

Over the weekend we planned a hiking trip with some friends. Grown ups and kids frolicking in the woods enjoying the peak fall color. We couldn't wait and the anticipation was killing us.

The trailhead was just a little further so we stopped at this lake to eat. And let the dogs and kids run around. What in heaven's sakes is at the top of that mountain?

Must have been a freak thing because there isn't snow anywhere else. That I can see.

Right??

Wrong!

We found our trailhead and hopped out of the car into this.

Of course the kids were ecstatic. As were a few of the husbands.

Mine included.

The poor pups were thoroughly confused. And I can't say I blame them.

Oh that dear pup looks miserable! Poor thing! lol! It's been pretty cold here and we've been getting freezing rain so I wouldn't at all be surprised if we got some snow. In Oct. Yikes.

I actually wanted to ask about your camera too. I am looking into ESO Canon Rebels, but am so confused by the different models. They range so much in price it makes you wonder if you should go ahead and spend the extra bucks for a REALLY nice camera or if the less expensive will take great pictures too... and add lenses and flashes as you go... you are so talented. I don't know where you find the time to do all the things you do! You're inspiring though! Thanks.

Wow! It's so pretty. Your photographs make me want to be there. The dog is so cute. She really does look confused. It looks like you had a great day! I think hubby and I are going to have to go hiking. We are in Southern CA though, where the temperature has been in the 90's!

I would have been in the ecstatic group! One of my favorite things to do in fall - hike. Even better when you come across a fresh dusting of snow. Yes, it's a little early, but still pretty. I love the look on the puppy's face!

Great photos as always. Is that what they call "hoarfrost" or is it really snow? It is so unusual looking. Well, I'm a beach town girl so any snow looks unusual to me! Thanks for sharing the fun and excitement.
