Thread giveaway!

ETA: April 2, 2010 Time's up. Winners to be announced momentarily.

I love Mettler thread. Really, really love it.

And when I was planning the second quilt along with the pinwheels I contacted Mettler and asked if I could give away some of their thread.

And they stuttered and balked and questioned more than once just who the heck I am.

But alas! I am persistent! And Mettler is generous.

For I am giving away TWO Mettler thread collections containing 28 spools of thread each.

Just leave a comment to this post anytime before Friday, April 2, 2010 at 6pm Eastern Daylight Savings Time USA. International entries welcome . . . as always. Two winners will be selected by random draw soon after the deadline. I'll even put together a prize pack for the person leaving the best/funniest/wackiest reason why they should win the thread.

Good luck.

I've never used Mettler thread but have heard wonderful things about them. All my thread has been found in the clearance bins at the fabric store and would you believe I still have thread from my home ec days all the way back in 7th grade in um *cough*1986*cough* when the sewing project was to pick a pillow to make and stuff and I picked a cute computer pillow to make? I no longer have the pillow (but I bet my mom has it somewhere!!) but I still have the spools of matching thread!

Anyone with thread from a 1986 home ec project certainly deserves to win! please?

well, i never used Mettler thread before so that should be a good reason to win: i could use those great colors, fall in love with the material and never buy any other thread again!

I should win because my children leave me hanging by a thread... and I am on my last one.

I don't know that I have a wacky reason I should win, but I am just learning to quilt, and I am always afraid to try any color of thread besides beige....this would really pull me out of my comfort zone! :)

Oh how I love Mettler thread
Oh how I love Mettler thread
I have enough fabric until I be dead
But never enough Mettler thread!

And my birthday is coming up in April. With 2 small sons and a forgetful husband and no family in this country I will get no quilty treasures, so I must hope for a Random Number Generator to be my friend. Come on lucky number 404!

Thanks for the chance at such a great collection!

Fantastic all your hard work to get the Mettler thread to give away! A rainbow of color explosion that I would love to have. While we are having a winter that seems to not want to stop, all of those beautiful colors will add zing and joy to my quilting.

cinnamongirl said...

Wow it does pay off to be persistant. Very generous of Mettler.

Imagine the sewing you could accomplish with all that thread at your fingertips. Possabilities are endless.

Please through my name in the hat.

andrea said...

I'd love to try out and use some Mettler. While my LQS has Gutterman, you actually can't buy Mettler in my tiny Nevada town. That means that Mettler thread is 3 hours away (but we don't head that direction, we visit family 4 hours away instead). If I don't win this thread I may never be able to try it out (because I always forget to buy any when I'm out of town).

Corinnea said...

Why I should NOT win the Mettler thread...
1. I have a lot already cause I love it.
2. There are others who've commented that they've never tried it and they should win so they can.
3. I don't have any varigated and that will make me start several new projects on top of the several others that I have not finished.

BUT, I want it. I really, really want it.

Thanks for you persistance with Mettler! They know who you are now and are glad of it I'm sure!

What beautiful colours! I've never seen Mettler thread before (one of the downsides of living in a town of 600 people), but I'd love a chance to try it. Thanks.

I'm finding that I need to up my thread stash. It's no fun having to run (30 minutes) to the fabric store to buy some.

As for the wackiest reason why? Well, I want to have to some on hand in case the doctors need it when I deliver this huge baby.

Is that wacky? or just gross?

Mary on Lake Pulaski said...

People have said I've come unstitched = please allow me the option of putting myself back together with the correct color of thread.

Lindi said...

Love those colours. I would really really really like to win a set! I don't have many threads. You could say I'm a bit thread bare!

Oh what gorgeous thread - I would love to have such a collection. Lisa L.

Well I got a few reasons...

1. I'm new at quilting and well, I have 0 thread stash! So this would be an amazing way to start my stash off. Plus I have a few quilts to quilt and well thread is something need for that.

2. I'm drooling on my laptop looking at those beautiful colors!!! Who couldn't fall in love with such bright colors. They would match the walls of my house easy!

3. My husband would tell you it's all his fault I'm here on quilting blog and quilting. It's his fault I've start a very tiny stash of fabrics and he secretly knows I'm planning my takeover of one of the rooms in the house for quilting. Part of that takeover, includes needing thread.

4. Because it's crazy they don't know who you are, only one of the best bloggin quilter around!! Maybe I need to inform them of that!!

So magic number thingy....please please pretty please with sugar and a cherry pick me!

Another reason I'm an avid fan of your blog...and flickr....you have such wonderful "connections" in the quilting world and fab giveaways! Thanks for the chance to win ( I have two split rail fence quilt tops ready to quilt !)

What a terrific give-away! Thanks for the chance to win.

JHM said...

Are those variegated colors too! This would be perfect for my applique blocks. Thread is like fabric you can't have enough of it. There is always the need for more as you need just the right shade! I will probably end up sharing the threads with my mom, who has been sharing her threads and machine with me for a while now. I have been slowing building up my supply of basic sewing/quilting notions. Good Luck to the person who gets picked because this is a great giveaway!

Lois0607 said...

Good for you to be persistent. I would never think of asking a company for something to giveaway. I love the colors of these threads - it would end up - at least for as long as it lasts - as artwork in my sewing room.

Not know who you are? Are they all living under a rock somewhere?? Really! I should win the thread... Why, you ask? Because Victory is Mine, Victory is Mine, Great day in the morning people, Victory is mine!!! I just found out yesterday that I passed the North Carolina Bar exam and I need to celebrate, which as all good quilters know, means I can stop obsessing about the stupid exam and the stupid scores and I can start creating again!!! My imaginary pet monkey and I have been stressed, and completely unable to make anything, other than small whimpering sounds, for weeks now! But now, with time, peace, and of course, beautiful shiny, colorful thread, Monkey and I can quilt, and quilt, and quilt!!!!

I NEED THREAD! Although, it is so pretty, I would have a hard time using any of it.... I guess I could overcome that though :)
I have LOTS of projects in the works, and this thread would be put to some very good use!

I would love to have this thread added to my small collection. With 5 kids, it is hard to make purchases for me. Good luck everyone.

What a great giveaway.

Why do I want to win, well the other day my machine told me it might go on strike if I continue to force it to work with only the boring off white thread I use all the time. She's dying to be threaded up with something pretty :)

Anonymous said...

I should win because i have only used the cheap thread and i would love to try the good stuff. I love your blog and thanks for the giveaway

I need this because I'm moving in May and I just need new things! because new house equals new things... right?

thanks for the chance to win!

Ashley said...

Oooh, me! I also love Mettler thread, and use it almost exclusively. Though I'm kind of boring and I only use white, cream, slightly off white, slightly darker cream... (hey, maybe they should hire me to give their threads color names!). Anyway, your photo of all the beautiful colored thread is making me rethink that...

Julie said...

I would love to try some nice thread to quilt the quilt I am making for my mom! I've always used the cheap stuff... and I'm wondering if there really is a difference! (I'm guessing there is, since so many people say so.) Thanks for the giveaway!

So beautiful!

I have recently had to move my sewing area into my daughter's room (she's 5) because A) She wouldn't leave me alone long enough to sew one stitch, and B) the camper I was using for sewing got mildewy and that wasn't acceptable.

So I went into her room one morning to sew, only to find she had unwound all of my bobbins into beautiful little "nests" for her Barbies. Sigh.

Needless to say, the bobbins and spools of thread are up much higher these days! Still, I love her creativity :)

Anonymous said...

I live an hour away (IN GOOD WEATHER!)from the nearest fabric store so I usually just order my thread online from JoAnn's and it makes me sick to pay the $6 shipping for a couple of spools of thread ~ alas it is still better than driving for 2 hours for a few dollars of thread! I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to have all of those lovely colors waiting for me next to my machine!

What a great giveaway! As for a great/funny reason I should get it, don't really have one except to say that the closest place to get Mettler is a ways away and full of tempting things for little hands so that I nearly tear my hair out before I get my 3 kids out of there safely while purchasing thread.

How fun! Would love to win this generous prize!

Wackiest reason I need to win....I have a grandson who thinks he needs to play with my spools of thread. They come out of the thread holder and are all over the floor while I sew. These are more bright than the ones he plays with now. He would be learning his colors if he got to play with these!

Susan J Barker said...

you didn't say you wouldn't send the thread to Canada, so here's hoping that you will, but gee, more than 400 comments make the chances slim -- oh well, if you do talk to Mettler again, tell them i use and like most of their threads...

the momma said...

I think I should win some of this lovely thread because I never win anything. Well, mostly never win anything. There was that one time, about 18 years ago that I got a call telling me I'd won the Crayola Carousal. I was so excited; my kids and I would have so much fun using all those colorful art supplies! I rushed over to the store to pick up my fabulous prize. Turns out it wasn't THE carousal, it was A Crayola Carousal. Which was just a plain ol' 24 pack of crayons and a red turn-around cylinder to put them in.
So, you see, I really need these grown-up colors :-)

thanks for the chance to win!

p.s. it probably wasn't that the Mettler folks didn't know you, they probably just mis-heard. You know, A Dana, not THE Dana...

Renee said...

I just started quilting and want to start experimenting with better and prettier thread! Hope to win one of these :-)

Angela said...

How generous!

I have three little boys..ages 1 month, 2 years, and 5 years. Recently, my 2 and 5 year old got a hold of a few spools of thread. They literally unrolled the entire spools all over my house while I slept after a long night with the baby. All I could think of when I woke up is that my house looked like what I feel like most of the time...all tied up as I try to keep up with these little guys!!

Robyn said...

I need this thread in order to combat laziness. See I have cobwebs in the corner but I'm too lazy and too busy sewing to get them down. If I artfully drape my decorative thread snippets on them then I'm "creative" and no longer lazy or somthing like that. . .

scottylover said...

I told my hubby about a recent quilt show visit and how I fell in love with a small wall quilt done with thread painting. After he figured out that it did not mean using small bundles of thread tied to a stick as a paintbrush, he stated that he wanted me to learn... so that I could do a thread painted Elvis on velvet!!! I do believe this thread would do the trick! Uh-huhn-huh.

Well I think I could use the spools as jewelry too, besides just sewing with them. I could string spools of the thread on a necklace that would then match everything I have to wear in my closet. And I'd also need earrings which I could make with some kind of a hook. And if it was a very formal party I'd make longer chandelier earrings that would sparkle in the candle light every time I moved. Just have to be careful not to get to close to the candles or I'd loose my one of a kind look. I'm even thinking hair do-dads for my daughter. Then we could have matching jewerly. Wouldn't we be a show stopper??

Thanks for the giveaway! The biggest reason I can think of for having the thread is that my fabric is sitting in a storage unit under lock and key while my husband and I live in temporary housing (actively looking for a house.) Some seriously gorgeous thread to look at would add a little sunshine to the tiny little apartment--also occupied by a toddler, infant and two cats. We need a house soon or I might actually go bonkers!

Those are some incredibly gorgeous little boxes.

Why I should have those spools... I need help being a good daughter. Two things you need to know: (1) I don't have a job right now and I'm squatting at my parents' house until I find a new one. Since I have no income, I get The Look whenever I bring something new into the house. (2) My dad loves yard sales. LOVES THEM.

Well, he thought he was being helpful and generous by picking up a bunch of thread at a yard sale. There have to be 100+ spools in the boxes that he brought home. Unfortunately, the vast majority of them are on unidentifiable or wooden spools. I don't know what most of them are made of, or how old they are. I'm terrified to use them, but I don't want to hurt my dad's feelings. If I had one of these incredibly awesome boxes, I could use them (quietly) and show my dad things that I made "with the thread that he bought me" because he would never know the difference.

Oh, I would LOVE all that thread! I've just accepted a new job, or rather volunteer position with Americorps and the meager living stipend I'll be living on means I'll have to be extra thrifty if I hope to keep sewing. Did I mention that I've donated all but one of the quilts I've ever made? :)

Mettler Thread? Fabulous stuff. Just ask my 2 kittens, Misty and Molly. They are convinced it's all just pretty dental floss with a roly-poly inside begging to be set free. They discovered there are wonderful treasures in Mom's studio just waiting for clever little paws to find. A persistent but gentle "goosing" of a certain Thread Drawer provides endless hours of entertainment. The best of which is 'helping' Mom clean up. Now Mom needs more thread...

So... did you know that during the Civil War, women of the south were so short on supplies that they had to scavenge thread from garments that could no longer be worn to repair garments they could wear?

I think I need to win so that I don't have to scavenge for thread as they did during the Civil War! :P

Great giveaway...love that Mettler thread. I'd like to win these wonderful, colorful little beauties just to sit and look at them! They'd be great playmates with my current threads.

I guess I will have no chance winning with all the comments you already have got :) But I just have to give it a chance. All quilters love thread :) Happy Easter to you.

oh-oh! Seems like I'm about the 540th comment, never the less I always live in hope. Mettler is great, especially the varigated thread. I can count my spools of thread on one hand so to be a winner would be wonderful! It would also be my first win. Holdings thumbs and crossing toes :)
Dana, you're a genius to get such wonderful goodies to share.

I think I should win a pack, because most of the thread I currently own is Coats and Clark, and I need some good thread to use for myself, and I'll be able to let my 4 year old to take the spools of CC to string around the house as a deterrent to burglars.

My husband hates when she does this, but I LOVE it because then it's an excuse to buy more -and better quality- thread. Mama always needs a good excuse to go shopping!
