I's stho sthmart

I've lamented the basting of quilts before due to the necessity of mopping the kitchen floor beforehand.  Cause, you know, you have to lay all the layers of the quilt out flat on the floor and that means that I have to mop.

Light bulb moment people.  Boo's room has hardwood floors!  And I can get away with just sweeping it before basting a quilt on it!

A chorus of angels sang.

I told you I's stho sthmart.

P.S.  I see no need to mention how long it took me to make this life changing discovery.  And nor should you.  Thank you very much.  Goodbye.

This totally cracked me up. Mopping is my biggest procrastination point for basting. So usually I just bring it over to my mom's house where the floors are always clean and then she can watch my kid while I baste too - bonus! Apparently I didn't inherit her cleanliness gene.

What's a mop? hehehehe

Be careful not to scratch your floors with the pins.

Even better, portable tables pushed together and raised by bricks. Really way better than any floor in any condition! But congrats for a lightbulb moment accompanied by song...

Brilliant!

Thanks for making me laugh....

I'm twice as bad as you because I just let the quilt get dirty and wash afterward AND I just use the spray.

Mopping? Hmm, I must try it sometime LOL! I don't ever baste hehe! Works for me! Love those Erin McMorris (wildwood?) fabrics, I must use more of my little stash! Happy Quilting Dana!

I despise basting. I'd rather spend the $10 - $15 to have the quilter do it for me. So I do.

Am I bad? I don't worry about mopping since I am going to wash the quilt as soon as it is quilted anyway.

Why do you think I have (almost) 2 quilt tops instead of finished quilts? Floorspace!!! I'm seriously thinking about having it done by a quilter, but it seems pretty pricey! I LOVE the colors in that quilt, btw. :)

Mop? We're supposed to mop the floors?

Yay for two banquet tables side by side in the basement for basting! No mop needed.

Until a few months ago I would literally wait days to baste a quilt because my floors weren't washed. Then like others above I decided that if whatever was on my floors was soooo caked on that it wouldn't sweep up then it probably wouldn't get on my quilt. Kind of disgusting to admit, but freeing. Good to know I am not the only non-mopper out there.

Trudi, how do you not baste? Do tell.

This made me laugh because I was thinking of you as I tried to quickly clean my floor to lay the finished quilt and my grandson down for the photo shoot... I need a house keeper.

I am fortunate enough to have a huge tiled entry that I can't afford to get a rug for. It is the perfect grid for basting a quilt. And I don't always even sweep it, because the dust mostly gravitates to the sides by the baseboards leaving the center of the floor relatively dust-free. And yeah, then I wash the quilt after. Down with brooms and mops, I say!

want to know why i am laughing right now? because i did the same thing! did it in one of the bedrooms so i wouldn't have to mop the kitchen!!!

think smarter not harder! woohoo!!

I love those aha moments. I like my hardwoods because they help me line up the quilt and make sure it is straight, assuming, of course, that the person who did the floors 25 years ago did a good job. :) happy day.

Great idea.

To avoid sweeping and mopping, I tack my quilts to the wall with painter's tape.

I only have to move pictures in that case.
