The one where she wonders what she's gotten herself into.

Every so often my step dad asks how long it takes me to make a quilt.  My answer is always that it depends on the quilt.  It depends on how complicated each block is and how many parts there are to each one.

This particular quilt is going to take awhile.  Considering I've already spent two hours cutting all the pieces and figure I'll have fifteen hours in the making of these 720 blades below.

Then I still have to do something with all those blades.

But to answer your question, Dale, I don't ever really think about the time that it takes to make a quilt.  I do when you ask me but that is the only time it ever crosses my mind.  I tend to just decide on a project and then enjoy the process.

I wonder if I'll enjoy all 720 of these suckers . . .

Hahaha, soo true! I made a dresden last fall, and I also had that "what the heck am I thinking" moment at about this same point. The good news is that after you get all the spokes made, things pick up rather quickly from there. Don't lose heart!

haha! I always think that about projects I begin :) That quilt is going to be awesome, that is exactly what I have been thinking about doing with my hope valley fabric. It may take me years to get around to it though :) I can't wait to see yours! Guess what? I purchased my ticket for the sewing summit!

Ha! I just started the same quilt pattern. I've got two blocks finished. Not a speedy quilt to make, but I'm enjoying the process!

I ALWAYS underestimate how long a project will take! I guess I think I am superwoman and can just whip it off ;) I do enjoy the journey, but usually at least once during each quilt I ask myself....don't I have something else I should be doing with my time?? I guess not, because I just finish and start all over again!

Nah, don't worry about how long it takes, as long as you enjoy the journey! And what a journey it's going to be with all that hope valley! Look forward to seeing your progress :)

Quilting is a labor of love. That's why we do it! I don't think the time involved is really a factor. Can't wait to see the finished quilt.

is that the dresdan plate by edita star? I have a friend who has made several of them, each one so different and beautiful.
how I felt about my finsihed 6" wheels of wonder, each 6 inch block is 12 curved pieces that makes a square. it is now finsihed, sort of, i want to make a bunch of half blocks so the edge is scalloped but trying to decide how to quilt it is still a big question.

ya just have to go for it. i am sure you will tire of those blades but you will perservere and it will be lovely as ususal. happy piecing :-)

oh, by the way, that particular wheels of wonder is king size, thats alot of 6" squaes, alot of curved pieces. thank goodness i love curved piecing. :-)

Dresden plates! Love them. I am currently working on dresden plates for a scrappy quilt. I cut 550 of those pieces... it helped to work in stages. 20 plates sewn together, 5 more to go. :) It is definitely a process but a fun one! Can't wait to see what yours look like. You can check mine out here

I'm working on Dresden right now. The worst part is cutting/prepping the blades. After that it is sheer, unadultrated joy!

My answer to this question is always "Many Happy Hours" :)

Hey! I just started a Dresden quilt. But mine only has 340 blades -- only about half as daunting. ;) Can't wait to see this one.
