It really never sleeps

The Cathedral of Saint John in Upper Manhattan

This small garden outside of the Cathedral was a quiet place in a noisy, noisy city.

Tomb of Ulysses S. Grant along the Hudson River

The famous Apollo Theater

Central Park on the left.  Shee-shee apartments on the right. You've heard the term "Upper West Side?"  This is it.

Natural History Museum, Upper Manhattan

Times Square

Times Square

The Broadway musical Wonderland was incredible!

New York City is a cacophonous, uproarious and flashy city.  Each sidewalk is packed with hurried walkers.  Each street is brimming with bumper-to-bumper cars, trucks, taxis and buses.  The buildings stand tall.  The subways rumbles beneath your feet.  The sky is only visible if you look straight up.

The quiet captions tell the story best of the clamorous, booming images above them.

And this was only day 1.

Don't you just love it. My husband is originally from Brooklyn and still has family there. We make a trip at least once a year and spend several days staying right in the middle of Times Square. There's always so much to do that we play tourist and have a wonderful time.

Thanks for sharing about your trip. It's so fun to see New York from a "regular person's" POV. :)

Thanks for bringing back so many memories. We lived in NYC for three and a half years while my husband was in grad school at Columbia - right near St. John's! Our apartment was on Riverside Drive at about 124th street and we could stick our heads out our windows and see Grant's tomb. Haven't been back in about 11 years. Would love to take my kids back to see all of the sights! Have a great trip!
