Weekending Mother's Day style

We've been on the go for more than a month.  We took four major road trips driving a total of 36 hours all before the New York City trip.  And then of course to New York City.  Each trip was good in and of itself . . . but lumped together and grouped back-to-back, it was too much.

And when you are gone that much, things stack up at home.  Projects need finished.  Chores have multiplied.  New things crop up.  Each leaving this road wary momma overwhelmed.

We are home now and our travels are done.

This weekend allowed us to catch up on some of those neglected chores.  But we also chose to spend time together.  Outside.  With each other.  Doing things we love.

For me that meant falling behind my family on a small hike.  Taking time to notice small quiet things.

For my family it meant jumping into freezing rivers.

And we all feel better because of it.  We feel a thread of connective-ness.  To each other.  To ourselves.  To our family.  Or maybe it's just me feeling all of these things.  Plus relief at some order in my home.  Pride in a newly planted garden.  Joy at a special Mother's Day breakfast and song. Happiness for my husband as he drives us down the forest service road. Hunger as I smell the dinner he is cooking.  Bewilderment as my house is being cleaned around me as I type.  Contentment in my simple life.

A simple life that's been far too travel-y.

What a fabulous post! I adore the way you guys spent the day, out in nature, exploring and soaking up all that fresh air. So fun to find those treasures in the woods. And such a great way to spend time with the family!
