Oh my stars

A few weeks ago I mentioned that I was going to get to quilt this on a long arm quilting machine myself.  Well, my long arm quilter recently acquired a computerized quilting machine in addition to his regular one.  He convinced me to load this onto that machine and let it do it's magic.

Can you see the stars and loops?  They are easier to see on the solid gray back.

Now I'm faced with a dilemma on the binding.  I have fabric left over from the pieced stars on front that I could make a scrappy binding with.  But, like I spout over on The Learning Center, I want the binding to be the perfect finishing touch on this quilt.  So, should I be frugal and use what I have?  Or, buy more yardage of the specific print I want to use as binding?

And, this is what my ornery dogs do while I hang a quilt on the line and take photos of it.  Three guesses how long it took me to get them back inside.

So....that quilting is divine. Love it! I'm not the right person to ask about the binding, because I'm Miss Frugal, but maybe since it's not me buying it I can say "splurge away!" :)

I vote for using the binding you are hankering after - it will put the finishing touch on this beauty and you will be so pleased you did! Great work!

I agree with Miss Frugal on being frugal! I would use what I have or go through my stash to make sure that I didn't miss any fabrics that would match. Then if all else fails buy the print you really want:)

Did those puppies stay out there for another hr after you were done taking pics? They had to find the perfect place to do their business MOM!

I really want to do this quilt. I think a binding that picks up on the dark reds would be perfect.

20 minutes? at least it looks like a nice day to be chasing dogs.

Such an awesome quilt! After all your time and effort, spend the $10 and get the binding you want!

Looks lovely!! Go with your gut on the binding.

wow how gorgeous! i would splurge, i think the stars pop on their own and i worry the scrappy binding would take away from it.. besides, i'm SURE you can put the scraps to good use elsewhere.. so they won't be wasted! :)

It's too gorgeous not to finish it exactly as you pictured.

Your rebellious doggies are very cute!

The quilt is gorgeous! Love the stars and loops. I personally love scrappy bindings. I just find them to be so awesome.

Great quilting to complement your pieced stars. Did you get to watch while the panto formed itself? Me, I love a scrappy binding, but if you have your heart set on one particular fabric, I say go get some. You probably only need 3/4 yard or less to make the binding.

I have no idea how long it took to get your dogs inside. I can barely make mine go outside!

i do free hand stars and loops, they are so much fun...yours turned out great...just gotta have faith the tension is perfect, the thread doesnt break...by the way...what happens if the thread breaks, does the machine automatically stop...mine is completely manual and sometimes i go on for awhile before i realize the thread broke...duh
i have a quilt in that's been on the machine forever...have to finish it,sick to death of looking at it everytime i go down to the basement. i had to pick out about 24" wide of quilting that the tension was whacky...threw that cotton thread away...my gammill just throws up cotton thread, always has since the day i got it about 25 years ago. even marcia stevens, the original queen of longarm quilting, tried doing just about everything to it and she could not get cotton to run thru it. wierd huh
the quilt looked great!

Oh my stars---love this quilt!!! Go splurge on some new binding. Hope you don't mind but am pinning to my quilting pinboard!!

Get the binding you want. It won't be that much and you can be frugal on something else. There's too much work in this beautiful quilt to not complete it the way that you want, it seems.

I love this quilt! So scrappy and love the gray background! Couldn't be more perfect. I love doing a scrappy binding, but do what you want, get that fabric!

It is lovely! Get more of that deep red color and make your binding striking. ;)

your star quilt is a work of art. That quilting is the icing on the cake, for sure. Binding? I'm a terrible one to ask for advise, but I would probably do scrappy.

Love the star quilting on your beautiful star quilt! I personally love a scrappy binding but I say if you really want a sold binding splurge and get one, you'll be happier with the quilt if it's what you want!

It looks beautiful!! And buy more fabric for the binding :) This is not a time to be frugal. You are so creative I know the fabric you would have used for binding will be perfect on another project you (or your girls) will work on soon.

LOVE the quilting, just perfect for this quilt! I am of the opinion that a scrappy quilt needs a scrappy binding. I love how it pulls all of the fabrics from the quilt together in one beautiful finish. I'm sure whatever you do will be beautiful!

Oh my Starry eyes! Go get the binding you are really hankering over, you won't be happy unless you do! :) LOVE this quilt!

Ditto the splurge encouragement! I used the clamshell print for the Parisville quilt I made, but if I could redo it, I would probably use one of the eyedrop prints.

Great quilting pattern for the quilt; love it. You have to splurge on the binding; you won't love it as much if you don't :)

Love your stars quilt it matches the barn stars you have on the wall.......I would buy more fabric for the binding....

Your quilt is beautiful Dana! I love the quilting too :) I would get the print you really want (I like the deep navy/purples) to finish it off perfectly!

Beautiful! I love this pattern. I made one myself, but I love how yours has a gray background. LOVE it! I say buy more fabric for the binding. Especially for this one. It's scrappy enough. It needs the right binding to frame it.

Oh, how pretty. Love the quilting and the stars on the front, and the back is awesome, too.

As for binding, splurge.

I can't wait to see what you do with it.

As for those doggies? In the sun, having fun, I'd say it took a bit more than normal to get them to come back in. Like mine...if it wasn't raining.

Spurge for the binding you want - it's the icing on the cake and you've earned only top quality ingredients with this quilt. I'm a fan of scrappy but go with your gut, it knows best.

Get the fabric you want for the binding! you are worth it!
:)

don't get me started on pooches--today the vet basically begged me to get my dog out of there after her spay surgery! she came out of her sleepy fog and started jumping around like nothing had happened--they had their hands full!

Beautiful! I would not do a scrappy binding... The red fabric really pops out of this quilt. I'd buy more of this for binding or just black.

Oh, that is beautiful! Just beautiful!!

Lovely Dana!!! I just love this pattern, and i had fun making mine... i'm in the process of a queen sized one now.....

i've done one scrappy binding, and i liked it. yours although a scrappy binding would be fine, i think that the dark red used in 3 1/2 stars would really look great to frame this creation. i see 3 or 4 others suggested that same red.....

it's your creation though...do what feels good for YOU!!!

Gorgeous. The quilting is wonderful. I agree with everyone that says to get the binding you want. No sense not being 100% happy with the results. I too was thinking red would look great.

Love this quilt.......stars just seem to call my name. I am not sure if you have decided on the binding yet, but I would go for either the same color grey as the base of the quilt (to let the stars shine and pop) or splurge and purchase whatever you have in the back of your mind...........this quilt is worth the extra $$$$$$$. The quilting is wonderful too...........I am so happy I found your blog.
