On the lighter side

Yesterday I finished this quilt for summer.  There is no layer of batting in the middle.  So really, it's nearly as light as a cotton sheet.

Plus, very minimal quilting makes it loose and flimsy.  And lighter.

For the backing I used this textured cotton.  It makes the back look as light and airy as the quilt feels.

What I think I love most about this quilt is that my 10 year old wanted to use it as soon as it was pulled from the dryer.  Ten to twelve new quilts are pulled fresh from the dryer every year and I never get that reaction.  I'm hoping this means she will use it inside, outside and up-side-down all summer long.

It's going to look especially nice on my newly painted vintage metal glider.

ooh, ooh, I love the simplicity of this. It is always a treat, when the kids love it as much as we do. I've been meaning to make a summer/ picnic type quilt for years. Perhaps this is the year.

I just saw a pennant quilt in Garnet Hill catalog that I want to make. Yours is perfect, especially in the reunion fabrics.

Love the colors. Oh, they are sew perfect.

I think you just gave me an idea to do with a cake layer of fabric I want to keep forever in a place of ohmage. lolol.

No batting. Great idea.

May the youngster enjoy for a long, long time.

That's a great stamp of approval and must make you beam.

Yep, I like it, too. I'm sure it'll be much loved... That cotton you picked for the back is an inspired choice. Just enough comfort for summer.

Also, um, glider?? Bring on the photos.

That is the best in the whole world- when what you made is loved and used right away. :)

LOVE the idea of this. i have empty duvet covers that i have used for summer "blankets" in the past but that is a perfect kind of picnic/camping/cool on the couch summer cover. i'd fight your daughter for it, but i've seen pictures i think she'd kick my butt ;-)
