Things I never thought about mothering

When my girls were younger I never imagined some of the conversations we would have as they got older.  Never in a million years did I think that having a lesson on how to actually throw trash INTO a trash can would occur. Or that I'd have to referee arguments over whose turn it is to sit in the front seat.

I have a brother.  And when I squint my eyes and hunch up my shoulders and really try to remember when he and I were younger, I guess I should have known.

But dang.

So true...
One thing I never expected about mothering was the need to teach my children to puke.

No one can sit in the front seat unless they are 12. Its the law here! Does that help! BTW the whole garbage thing continues forever! My oldest at 21 still misses! Same goes for their things on the stairway they can't manage to see them as they go pass a dozen times.

Too funny, the never ending dance of siblings. I hope they'll be life long friends.

Happy Mother's Day...yeah they don't come with instructions :0)

We've had family training sessions on refilling ice cube trays and replacing toilet paper rolls complete with demonstrations and ridiculous question and answer periods. Didn't work .....

I repeat the same thing everyday to the youngest. Really?? And I do the referee thing here everyday. It is what it is. :)

My girls are grown and out of the house, but when the youngest is home she still leaves dirty dishes in her room. And clothes on the floor. OMG
It really never ends LOL.
Neither of them ever hung up clothes at home.
They did stop fighting eventually though.

Things your mother never (or tried) to tell you. Funny!

I was an only child so I missed out and whenever things came up with our two kids, they would always say, "You didn't have any siblings so you don't understand." :) I'm here to let you know that everyone survived, and when you have an empty nest, you will miss these years. When they have their own place, they will learn to put their trash INTO the trash can because you will not be there to do it for them. :) They will thank you profusely for all the things you did that they didn't know you did until they left home.

Manuals for children would have been nice. ;)

As an only child, I really had no clue about the sibling thing with my two. Good thing the spouse is one of four so he could assist me when I came up stumped.

One I still can't break is leaving an empty box in the cupboard. Both of them do it and it tends to drive me batty(er).

Wouldn't change a thing though. As much as I mothered them, they helped me grow, too.

Happy early mums day. May it be wonderful and full of memories.

The fight over front seat authority was solved at my house by giving each (a boy and a girl) a whole month to have the front seat. No matter how many times we got in the car, they KNEW if it was their month!! Peace and quiet for years and years.

lol I distinctly remember my brother and I drawing a line down the back seat so he would stay off my side and vice versa. :)

Haha! Or how to hang up a wet towel or how to put dirty clothes in the hamper...the list goes on and on. And I would make them both sit in the back!! Happy Mothers Day, Dana!

Oh my poor mother, my sister and I were awful. Always picking at each other. I say stick em both in the back seat and make em hold hands! ha!

Referee is by far my least favorite mothering duty!

Happy Mother's Day friend, can't wait to see you next weekend!

I like hearing these stories because it makes my world seem 'normal' . This morning, I was referee over who had the cozier blanket. Then it was who got more icecream in their bowl. socks hidden under the computer table...plate under the coffee table.... oh my. it's endless. And yet, looking back at how my sister and I fought as kids...my kids are peaceful. :-)
