Aplenty
For the first time in nine years, we didn't plant a big vegetable garden this summer. The traveling dictated that and it felt weird at first.
We are fortunate, however, to have many friends that garden and sell at local farmer's markets. This past Sunday we heard a motor pulling closer to our house and looked out the window to see our neighbors on their tractor pulling a cart full of just picked produce. They insisted we take all that we wanted and to visit their garden anytime to get more.
My husband and I take great satisfaction in growing food. But the weirdness of not growing it ourselves this year has been replaced with deep gratitude for friends that keep us so beautifully fed.
It's been both a lesson in gratitude and cutting myself a break.

Good friends are priceless. Hope your summer is wonderful. I feel like mine is speeding by.
xo
Good friends are wonderful...I've learned you have to be a good friend to have good friends. They are just playing your past kindnesses forward.
Happy Summer :0)
Beautiful in so many ways.
How lucky to have such wonderful neighbors to share their harvest with you! Looks like a perfect selection of produce. I have kinda missed growing vegetables too, but sometimes priorities change, and you roll with it. Enjoy all that freshness!
That is wonderful! Such great neighbors! I see a few summers (during law school) where I will have to lay my garden to rest. Sometimes you just can't do it all. (GASP! Did I just say that. You know neither of us really believe that . . .)
this is one of those unexpected blessings. so hard to let go of doing everything you want to do.
Awesome friends to have. Bounty shared is just wonderful.
Next year (I think I said that last year) I want to put in a garden. Nothing big, but enough to putter about and make it worthwhile (spuds, tomatoes, etc.).
Enough to drive the chickens crazy while it's going on. ;)
Enjoy that beautiful harvest.
Love having good friends, especially nearby! I've only ever grown tomatoes (I'm not an outdoor girl, remember? hehehe) but I'd like to think one day I'll manage to grow more than just tomatoes. I've been thinking that for 5 yrs though... hehe
Yummy goodness and wonderful neighbours.
I hear you about the travel/garden dilemma. Ours went south fast because we were gone so long last month. Thank goodness you have such nice neighbors.
Since we moved in late May, we have also spent the summer "gardenless", and yes, it does feel weird and kind of incomplete. But seeking out local food in other ways, getting to know more farmers and more neighbors as we visit the farmer's market here on the square has been a really great experience.
