Contest is now closed. Winner announced in post dated 8/7/14.
Want to win this quilt? It's from my book Imagine Quilts that was released this month and is the pattern featured on the cover called Posy Patrol.
I've said numerous times here that I'm generally not a pattern based quilter. I usually have an idea for a quilt and then sketch, compute, calculate and scratch my forehead until I figure out how to make the idea in my head translate into a quilt. Both as a quilter and as a blogger the number one question I get asked time and time again is, "Where do you come up with ideas for your quilts?" Imagine Quilts is my answer to that question and an open invitation to grab some graph paper and discover how your design process works.
I made it with the new fabric line from Alison Glass for Andover Fabrics called Field Day.
The quilt measures 50"x50" and is made with 100% cotton fabrics and batting. It is machine washable and dryable and a perfect size to have on your lap.
And the quilting. Can we just stop and pause and admire the work that Russ Adams of The Back Porch Quilters does for a moment? Breathtaking. I never tell him what design I want done on a quilt because in my opinion he is an artist and whatever decision he makes will only enhance, compliment and make my quilt sing in ways I didn't know possible.
So you wanna chance to win this quilt? It's a two step process to enter. First, send me an email at dana at oldredbarnco dot com with the name, address and contact info of a local quilt shop that you think should carry my book Imagine Quilts. Do that in an email to me directly so that that info isn't broadcast here on my blog for the world to see. Second, once you've done that, leave a comment here telling me where you get inspiration for your quilts.
International entries welcome. The contest entry time will close on Wednesday, August 6, 2014 at midnight US EDST. A winner will be chosen randomly and announced Thursday, August 7th.
And you should follow both Alison Glass (@alisonglass) and I (@oldredbarnco) on Instagram because Alison will be giving away a bundle of Field Day fabric and I am giving away signed copies of Imagine Quilts.
Finally, I'd be tickled pink if you'd like to purchase a signed copy of my book. In all honesty, it'll feel weird and make me all wide-eyed and blubbery. You can click below if you fancy. It only calculates shipping for US customers but if you're international, let me know and I'll work with you to find the cheapest shipping option possible. Big wet sloppy kisses. From my pups. Not me... cause that would be awkward.
Good luck on winning the quilt!
-dana

Congrats on your new book...looks like a winner. LOVE,LOVE,LOVE your quilt! I sent you an email.
Forgot my inspiration...comes just 'out of the blue', I like to make 'scenes' with raw edge applique, or paper piecing...lots of times I see a quilt on the internet and go from there! I'm slow though and don't always 'finish' a quilt.

I get inspiration from the quilts my great grandma use to make. They are beautiful just like your quilts Dana! I'd love this quilt for my new little girl when she finally gets home from the hospital!
Inspirations can come from lots of places -- sometimes a collection of fabric suggests the design, sometimes I start with a photograph or painting, and use the colors and shapes as inspiration. I've even drawn on sewer caps and bathroom tile patterns for ideas ; )
I am inspired by antique quilts and everyday things like architecture, nature, and fabric of course! Lisa

Sent the email. My inspirations ? I don't know. Sometimes they come from the fabric -sometimes from nature - sometimes from pop culture. Right now i am working on 2 that came from photographs - not recreating the photo but the 'essence' of those photos.
There are so many places to get inspirations from! I especially love perusing pinterest and instagram - although, to be honest, sometimes I get so overwhelmed and jealous that I don't get to quilt all day!!

My original inspiration for quilting was my father's need for a blanket and I still get quite a lot of inspiration from him as grey was his fave colour and I add it in most of my quilts. Mainly blogs and brilliant talents inspire me to take the ideas for their creations and put my own spin on them. Thanks for the chance to win!

Love the quilt. I get inspiration from nature and following quilt blogs. So many wonderful quilts online.
I get inspiration from fabric; I LOVE going to quilt shops. I’ll just stand there for a few seconds and take it all in, then I start pulling bolts, piling up groups of coordinating fabrics from different designers just to see what works together. I love to touch the fabric, just the feel on good quality cotton makes me want to go home and sew. On the other hand Pinterest is a great FREE way to experience some of the same things without spending a penny.
My inspiration comes typically from nature - gardens, foliage, sunrises, storms, animals... Thanks for the giveaway!
I just sent you an email with a quilt shop. I love your quilt. I get inspired by the focal fabric I pick out first when making a quilt. Thanks for a chance at a great giveaway:)

I get my quilt inspiration from my home state of New Mexico! All those bold shapes and graphic patterns get me antsy to create!
I'm inspired by many things, but my children are one of them. I'm currently working on an applique shark quilt to satisfy my 4 year old son. I got the idea from a picture on Pinterest - where I get lots of ideas for other things, too! :)
I get inspiration for my quilts from vintage quilts themselves. I love to duplicate an old quilt with a new twist. Fabric itself also inspires me. Wish we had a quilt shop here. (All we have is Wal-Mart) :( I drive quite a distance to a quilt shop, or order on line.

I get my inspiration to quilt from many places, like tile in a bathroom, the colors in a Texas sky at sunset, the look on my grand daughters face when I make her a quilt. The tutorials on your blog have been the best I have tried. You really know what you're doing, have done your homework and share your passion to so many people. I hope I win this awesome quilt...It would inspire me to be nicer, ha, ha, ha!

I get my inspiration from nature, books, magazines and Pinterest.
I get inspiration through EMOTIONS and MUSIC. It sounds wacky but every color palette I've used has been based on where I am emotionally. Also I was inspired by one specific song to make my bluebirds quilt! You never know where your own feelings and the power of music can take you.
Email sent!
Sent you an e-mail. I get my inspiration on IG.
Hi there, I sent my email and I get my inspiration from the fabrics themselves.
Thanks,
Amy

Emailed! Book copy requested. :-)
I get my inspiration from all over - other quilty friends in person or online, other mediums like painting or movies, textures and patterns that pop up in random places like interesting tile work or light fixtures... (Yeah, I'm weird...) And sometimes, it's just a phrase or image that gets stuck in my head.
Most of my inspiration comes from quilting books or instagram. Instagram is amazing if you need help or your looking for some eye candy :) i definitely still rely on books a lot because sometimes you just can't do without precise instructions.
Things that inspire quilt making decisions are: color, fabrics w great color, looking at quilt books, going online or to the fabric shop to look at all the new goodies! My heart always beats faster and I feel giddy when I come across fabrics I love!
I mostly get inspiration from books and pinterest, I'll see something and remake it my own way.
Thanks for the opportunity to win this quilt! I get my inspiration from Instagram, Pinterest and personal blogs of quilters, sewists and fabric designers. - Jennifer Painter
