Growing Orchids

I fancy myself a bit of an orchid grower.  Well, that is kind of an understatement of what exactly plays out in my mind.  You see, I have several orchid plants and they are continuously blooming. Not just when I buy them . . . like as soon as one stem of blooms fades, another is waiting to take it's place.  Many people have told me their woes about never getting their orchids to bloom again and, well, I'm just not one of those people.  So you see, in my mind I'm sort of the orchid master.

The orchid virtuoso.

The Obi Wan Kenobi of orchids if you will.

Well, that was until my mom and I went in search of the orchid farm that I'd heard existed just down the road. We found it alright and learned that it is a three acre greenhouse full of orchids.  Right down the road.  Because as it turns out, the climate in my neck of the woods is perfect for orchid growing.

Whatever.

And being in a good location does not in any way take away from your talent. I promise that even if I lived in that greenhouse I could not grow orchids. ;)
So be proud Obi wan.

I see very few orchids blooming at the orchid farm. Seems to me, they need your help!

Do you have any orchid advice? My friend gave me a small orchid, as a thank you for teaching her to quilt, that I promptly drowned by watering too much. Because I always water too little. Then she brought me a second one and I asked her why? More like "WHY?!" Because she felt bad the first one died. THEN she brought me a third for my birthday. At this time I have two small orchids clinging to life by a thread, I'm sure. I did buy the proper bag of orchid soil so that I can take them from the small plastic container and plant them in the lovely ceramic container that the small plastic one is sitting in. (why do they do that?)

You probably also know that orchids grow on every continent but Antarctica :). I'm a poor houseplant owner as I cannot remember to water. Succulents are my go-to! Congrats on your orchid prowess, those orchids live in your house, not a greenhouse with controlled conditions!

I am blessed with a green thumb when it comes to growing most things, BUT when it comes to orchids, it is BLACK. Instant death. These fuss pots must love you, so revel. And I will be a tad green with envy.

I grow African Violets. I have a heap of those orchids around the place and for the first time ever, one of the has a new flower stalk growing! (Another put more flowers out from an old stalk and another different type also reflowered.) First time ever!
You are doing really well, and those orchids in the greenhouse are cymbidiums which are as tough as been knees.
