Zipping by and jumping off

As I stood watching my daughters do this last Saturday, I was struck by the metaphor of it all. Teenagers. Jumping off. Zipping by. Facing fears. Plunging forward. Am I talking about them? Their teenage years? Am I talking about myself? Parenting them? Being a bystander yet active participant? The metaphor works in both instances and the day or circumstance determines its use.

It's a wild ride. Being a teenager. Or a mother. I'm so glad that we are in it together.
