We hosted a student from Denmark last week and did our best to show her what United States of America is all about. It included a local pumpkin festival, a haunted house (The Halloween kind. Not an actual haunted house.) and a local sporting event. We took her to a diner, a mall, and some fast food joints she was curious about. The county fair and it's spinning rides left us all dizzy as did the trip to WalMart. The activities were fun but the best parts were the conversations. Learning about her and sharing ourselves. We've hosted many foreign students throughout the years and always leave the experience grateful for the time and connections made. Recognizing that curiosity and kindness make us the same no matter where we live made the hurried week meaningful and utterly unforgettable.
