TIME'S UP. WINNER IN NEXT POST.
I've talked about making jelly and jam here before. Several times in fact. And since I make lots of jelly and jam I have loads of canning jars in the cellar. The above photo shows the various sizes of jars that I possess. For food purposes that is.
However, I have a whopper of a canning jar that I use for fabric scraps.
It sits right by my fabric cutting table and all sorts of fabric scraps find their way into it.
And I haven't emptied in awhile.
But it is chuck full of good stuff. Stuff that I've been saving in hopes of making a string quilt. But . . . well . . . I've got loads of projects waiting to be done and a string quilt is at the bottom of that list. Besides, I think 500 posts here deserves some sort of giveaway.
So, I'd like to send said scraps onto one of you. Leave a comment here and I'll pick a winner by random draw on Monday, November 16, 2009. One entry per person. International entries welcome.
As I stated in my last entry, this weekend our youngest is having a birthday slumber party. Here at our house. I am hoping that the comments you leave will distract me from the chaos that will be 12 little girls tearing my house apart.
Good luck!

Hi Dana, count me in, I love scraps. Just remember, this is something your daughter will always remember......
I'd love your scraps. Good luck with the party -- I just had a three hour long birthday party with eight eight year old girls and I am pooped .. so I am highly impressed with the way you think big...
I love the scrap jar. What a perfect way to collect those bits and pieces.
Good luck with your slumber party ...I remember those days. And somehow I just don't think you'll get a lot of sleep.
Do count me in on your giveaway! And..thank you for sewing the binding on my quilt from Rhonda. She said you were working on it. Thank you ...I do appreciate it.
As a new quilter I haven't accumulated many scraps yet but my favourite quilts are scrap quilts so I know these scraps would come in so handy. Love your blog. Good luck with the party. We just finished my son's 6 year birthday party over the weekend.
Hey! Nice thing about girls is they entertain themselves, and each other. I once had to beg them at a sleepover to come and do just one of the projects I planned, they were so busy. But they're not at my house right now... I could use some scraps! Happy Birthday to the Birthday Girl!
What a pretty way to collect and display your scraps. Mine are in a container in the closet. I may have to rethink that after seeing this idea.
I'd take the scraps in a minute! I've been slowly - very slowly - saving scraps, but my collection could use a pop of freshness!
Maybe your scraps would like to come over & meet my scraps! (A trip to Hawaii would be involved)
Oh my... good luck with all those girls! Anything fun (for you) planned?
what a giveaway!
Good luck with the slumber party tornado...
12 girls....eeek. We just had a slumber party that involved 6 ten yr old boys...and that was certainly an adventure. I'm a big fan of scraps....they could come and breed with my scraps, to help create more christmas gifts...yay.
Oh, yes! I could use those scraps!! Wouldn't mind some of that jelly, too!!
What a great idea for scraps. I am just trying to put together a sewing room in my house - am now going to find a similar jar. While I have tons of scraps already, I'd take your pretty ones in a second.
L
Oh, good luck with the party (you must be a very very good mama to take on such a challenge).
I love the jar! And I wouldn't mind the scraps!
Make sure you play a movie for them....Twilight should keep them busy!!!
I love scraps! Your canning jar is perfect for displaying them.
you brave lady for having 12 girls over! i would love to add those scraps to my newly started collection of my scrap material
Oh how cute! I have a basket that I am keeping scraps in, but I have no idea what I will do with them! I want to find a few canning jars to use for decoration...I want to fill one with buttons, one with spools of thread and maybe one with the tomato pin cushions, depending on the size of the jars!
Any activities for the girls planned? At my first sleep over we bedazzled and puffy painted tshirts. That was about twenty years ago but I still think it's cool!
Love Scraps!!! Here's keeping the fingers crossed...
Hahahaha....you are funny....like whatever we say here is REALLY going to distract you from the fact that you have 12 girls coming over this weekend!! Oh...and good luck with that!!:)
Yep...I would love for you to mail that jar fun of loveliness my way!
.....I think you will be just fine this weekend...here's hoping for good weather!:)
Oh my, you can read my mind! I was wondering where to get all the scraps to make a string quilt.. So if I win your scraps I would get started in a minute :)
Thanks for the great giveaway!
I'll trade you a pair of ear plugs for the pile o' scraps! :) And where in the world did you find that HUGE jar? Was there anything in it?
Write down some helpful pointers and pass them my way. My little girl is 3 and I see quite a few slumber parties in my future.
I would love to win this! I'm actually making a scrappy quilt right now and am slowly running out of scraps!

My husband will think I'm crazy for wanting someone's scraps. I have the big jar in a 1 gallon size, looks like you have the 2 gallon (which is the size I really wanted, but reason took over). I didn't know what I wanted to do with it, I think it will become my scrap jar.
Holy crow, that is one huge canning jar! If I were to win your glorious, colorful scraps, I would commit to the original vision and make a string quilt :) I'm still pretty new to the quilt world and have been sloooowly building up a sufficient scrap stash to make one.
great storage! and wow, 500 posts - congrats! I'd love to win your scraps... I'm currently working on a queen sized string quilt and could definitely use a fresh infusion of scraps!
Thanks for a fun giveaway!
I'd want to make a string quilt too! How fun! And then I'd want to fill up that jar with peanut M&Ms and put it by my sewing table.
Slumber parties are the best! I loved the ones I went to as a kid - I'm not sure the parents who hosted always did though....
If it's any consolation, you too will survive this slumber party! I did and you can too! Yes, earplugs, but only in one ear just in case!!!
Awesome! Thanks for the giveaway. And good luck with the slumber party!
WOW!! What a fabulous idea! I think I may just "borrow" it! And what a honkin' huge jar! Where did that come from!?? Good luck this weekend with your party! YOU would be the one to deserve a giveaway after you survive a houseful of girls!!
congratulations on 500 posts, really incredible...I just love your blog. I have such a weakness for scraps, thanks for the chance...best of luck with the slumber party. Im sure your daughter will love every minute of it!
Would love to win your scraps :)
Good luck with the party.... I just had 9 six year old boys tearing my house apart, so I feel your pain :)
oh my gosh! that is one BIG canning jar!!! it's bigger than my canning kettle and that one is big.
i'd love to win your scraps though. my bag of scraps is constantly sifted through for mini quilts and i want to do a spiderweb quilt one of these days.
Woo hoo! Please count me in. Good luck with the party. You're a brave woman.
Oh dear...12 of 'em? You poor dear, lol. Go ahead, send me your scraps, I can use them in a string quilt...I'll call it, "how to string along" or something fun.
have a great party!! i hope you get to sleep before 1am!
I would LOVE any scrap you'd be willing to throw at me! Always love the fabrics you choose - so thanks for sharing with us, and congrats on 500 posts - love your blog!

That is a great jar! Not to mention the scraps. Hope your still around after the slumber party to pick the winner! :)
Good luck to you during the party. Wow...12 girls...hmmm....yeah, good luck. Thanks for the giveaway chance. Love the scraps in a jar idea. I'm thinking I might use your idea for gift giving to craft friends...great presentation. Congratulations again on your 500th post.
Oh wow! I would LOVE to get this in the mail. Not only do I LOVE getting mail, but I would LOVE your scraps. I don't do enough sewing/quilting to have those kinds of scraps. I'm sure I could find something fun to make with them. In fact, I've been thinking that it would be fun to make a string quilt, but I don't have the scraps to do it. So, this would be fun! And congratulations on 500 posts!
I love this jar! I would love to win the scraps!
Oooh, I remember little girl slumber parties! Enjoy, really, I mean it, because in a few more years you'll miss the chaos. Really.
I would love your scraps! I honestly don't have that many of my own, so I'd love to dig through your pile and put together a project with them all. Then I can think of you and my blogging fun every time I use it. Thanks for the giveaway!
I can't really help out with the party, but I can take those scraps off your hands for you! Have fun!
What a great giveaway. I'd have a ball with these for the pouches I'll make for Christmas gifts. Of course, as an applique-er, scraps are my fav thing.
~anna in md. www.bohemiancotton.blogspot.com/
I would LOVE to win this! Thanks for the fun giveaway!

Jen S.
As I love scrappy quilts, your scraps will be well loved. And my family will really think I have gone bonkers getting scraps in the mail.
Enjoy the party & giggling.
Love Leanne
Where did you find that jar?
I would love to win your scraps.

Lindsey
I'd love your scraps if poss! Got some wonderful ideas for them...
fun way to store your scraps! shows them off at the same time. :)
Have fun with 1 little ones running around. As for those scraps, I'd love to be entered into your drawing. Thanks so much!
Oh my gosh, 12 girls at a slumber party sounds almost as bad as living in the girls' freshman dorm at college. Gawd, that was awful! :P
Thanks for the chance at your giveaway; I am -planning- (trying to take it one step beyond hoping) to make a string quilt from scraps, exchange blocks, etc.
I ate a jar that size of homemade dill pickles all by myself, once. :) Hey, they were THAT good!
Dana, lock up your FMF quilt, that's my advice to you for the party! And make lots of chip and dip, that'll keep 'em all busy for a while.
Have fun and thanks for the chance to win your yummy bits! Jams looked good, too, you clever thing.
Bottoms.
Good luck with the slumber party!
I 'ld love to work with your scraps.
A good idea to store them in a jar.
Happy stitching
Renate
I would love your scraps!
Good luck with the party! My son had 5 friends over for a 2hr party and that was more chaos than I expected. Next year we are taking the kids someplace else, no more home parties.
(blogger is giving me lots of trouble, hope this posts!)
I love this giveaway because I LOVE SCRAPS!!!
Good luck with the slumber party! At all my slumber parties growing up we watched the 'Making of...Thriller' video. It was always a hit!
WoW! What a great idea. I have been saving scraps, too and I just put them in a bag. I love the idea of having them out where people can enjoy the colors, 'cause I love color. I have a friend who is going to teach me how to do a string quilt after the first of the year. I's love to add your scraps to that project!
Wow! You are so brave to take on 12 little girls, good luck with that. I'm about to start a scrap project and would be thrilled to get yours. :)
Please enter me in your give-a-way! Wow, that's some jar of scraps! Great blog! Kerrie
Awesome giveaway! Congratulations on 500 posts!
I'd love to add your scraps to mine and make some creative!
Light as a feather, Stiff as a board...That was always a must try at slumber parties. Kinda spooky, kinda fun, and kept us occupied for a good long time. Have Fun!
congratulations on the 500th post and a happy birthday to your daughter. May you survive the weekend.
Yeah! I love scraps. I have loved following your blog. Have a good weekend, enjoy the chaos. ;)
Yeah for scraps!
Looks like great material for bookmarks and a wreath.
Congratulations on your 500th post. I did my first post ever on Monday. I finally started a blog to join in all the fantastic quilt stuff happening in blog land. I keep my scraps for 'one day'. Some fabrics are just so special that you can bear to throw away the scraps. Have a great weekend.
How fun! Well, the scraps...I don't know about the sleepover! Good luck with that!!
Now I'm kicking myself! I passed on some giant jars at the thrift store the other day. oh well. I'll gladly empty yours!

Oh my but the endless possibility of someone else's scraps! Count me in!! Good luck with the slumber party, I'm sure your daughter loves you for all the work you put into making her and her friends have a great time!
How fun. I have a few Christmas gifts that need to be made that could use some scraps.
Holy cow--that's a lot of scraps! You know, before I even saw "giveaway", I was going "hmmm, what would I do with all those scraps?". LOL! I would make string and crumb blocks for days!!
Wow, this is a great idea and i will definitely be implementing it. Pick me...this will be a great start to my scrap stash. PS love your blog!!
Good luck with the slumber party!
Me me me!
Trish
I like the idea of scraps in a jar. I started a jar with thread. They say it will be pretty when it is full.
always in the mood for scraps! CONGRATS ON THE 5 0 0!!!
Oh, beautiful! I'm going scrap crazy. My favorite quilts always tend to be scraps. : )
scraps, yummy!
I don't know what is more tempting, the jam or scraps! Have fun with all the kiddos!
mamaogg@gmail.com
Oh wow -- the PERFECT reason to start to sew. :) I love all the fabric scraps.
Hugs,
Birgit
I would love your scraps...good luck with that party.
I love little scraps. I know just what I would do with them.
maybe this will push me into finally making a string quilt!
Wowee!! What a fun giveaway!! Congrats on your milestone, too :)
you are brave with 12 little girls running around- 8 did our heads in LOL
Great ideas for the scraps, I found a shop here that sells canning jars :)
Oh, I love me some scraps! Congats on 500 posts too! I use canning jars too for all of my little wee strips.
Canning jars are my favorite for keeping little tidbits nearby. I have one filled with scrap ribbon, one filled with buttons, one filled with beads .. I could go on and on :-)
That is the coolest (and biggest) canning jar I've ever seen! What a great place to store scraps!
Hi Dana!
Not sure which is the better loot; the jar or the scraps ;-). I use canning jars for my buttons and scraps too. My 19 month old loves to sort through them while I'm at my desk sewing. Count me in! :-)

I would love to have your scraps, good luck with the non-sleep/sleepover!
Rebecca
That is a lovely jar of scraps! I didn't fully appreciate scraps until I decided to make a string quilt, so they would be greatly appreciated at my house!
I have 3 daughters and we had many slumber parties. They are great fun, as long as you keep a happy attitude! Have a great weekend! You're a good mommy to do this for your little girl!
Can't wait to google string quilt.
Scraps are so fun and after watching your sewing projects; you have some really great scraps.
Slumber party fun to you:)
Lovely jars - that big one is the best! How sweet of you to share the "sweet" contents of it with one of us!
With so many posts going around about what people are thankful for - I am thankful for the bloggers like you - that give of your talent, and your grace and your wonderful view of our world - every day (even when you are not giving something material away)
scraps is such a misnomer - when there is so much that can be done with these wonderful little pieces.
I'd love to win! What a fun idea for a giveaway - Thanks!
Oooh Dana - those scraps sure look mighty yummy! So does the preserves! Lady of many talents!
Good luck this weekend! You are brave... that's a lot of giggling and noise for one weekend! I'll bet they'll have a ton of fun though.
Congratulations on 500 posts! Wowser and on over 1000 members too! I am so grateful you started that first quilt along... even if it did take me a while to cotton on to!
Oh I love scraps! I'm so new to this quilting thing that I have to "make" scraps to have any for scrap quilts. This is a really generous giveaway. Thanks!
Congrats on 500 posts!
Great idea for scraps! I"m going to use an old lolly jar I have - quilting is so much healthier than eating lollies!! Plus, fabric doesn't go stale.....
I always call sleepovers "wake" overs, because there really isn't much sleeping, is there?!!
I would love to taste the fabric that you have used in your beautiful quilts.
I have not been quilting enough to have great scraps so I would use yours! I want to make this:
http://crazymomquilts.blogspot.com/2009/09/ticker-tape.html
Truth, Dare, Double Dare, Promise or Repeat!!! I did love those slumber parties....
I've been saving for a string quilt, too, so would love to have your scraps! Have fun with the party. We just did an overnight with seven 9-yr-old boys. Can you spell R-O-W-D-Y?? :P
Good luck with the party and Congrats on the 500th post!
Yours scraps would be welcome here since I just participated in the scrap swap at the Flikr group and I'm making a rainbow string quilt:)
I so badly want to make a string quilt too! Here's wishing ... By the way, where did you get that great jar? I'd love to order one of those! (iliketoquilt@hotmail.com)

Hi! Carin from Margaret's Hope Chest here and boy I think you know what I would do with your scraps...wouldn't that be fun???
I love the blog and all the ideas you share. Thanks for the great giveaway.
Dana, someday I hope for a scrap jar like that. So far mine is a washed out peanut butter jar. I only just started quilting so I have room to grow... ;)
Scraps please. I just love your blog. Both your creativity and your wonderful sense of humor. Thanks for the give-away.
Congrats on your 500th post!!
A string quilt sounds like the perfect for me. Good luck with the slumber party. I remember those days. The day after is usually pretty rough from the lack of sleep!
What wonderful scraps! You know, you inspired me to keep my little scraps in canning jars as well.
Hope I win!
And Happy Birthday to your little one!
Lovely scraps! And what a great way of storing them. I would love to win! Thanks for the giveaway.
Good luck with the birthday party!
12 little girls! Oh boy what fun :0). Hope you have tons of food...kids sure can eat these days.
Send those great little scraps my way
I love working with em!
Happy Sewing
Wow! That is one big jar. Just wanted to say that I really like your blog. I just started my first quilt and decided to go with your first quilt along. I am half way through and I am loving it. I sudden understand people's obsessions with fabric and quilts :) Who would have thought!?! My husband laughs at me for stay up til the wee hours of the morning looking at quilting blogs and fabric. I kind of laugh at myself too.
Anyway, I would love to win your scraps and use them for my next quilt. Thanks for sharing and have fun with the slumber party. It's better than being up all night with a crying baby, right?!? :)
I love the idea of a jar. I just throw my strips in a bag for that strip quilt (someday)!!!!
I have been thinking about a string quilt and would love to have additional options!
Great jar. I've never seen one that big. Are you sure you want to give away those scraps? Have a fun birthday celebration.
My fingers are crossed ;)
Hmm... 12 little girls tearing your house apart? I bet they are very nice! But it reminds of my SIL's wedding... the maid of honor was a snot and had my FIL running to get her hairspray that morning... needless to say before the day was over I told the selfish little girl off! Hope you don't have to call any one's mom?!
i can only imagine the noise level at your house! i had three sleepover the other night and it was crazy but so fun. i'd love to win your scraps, i'd give them a good home here in kansas! congrats on 500!
Hahah, I'd love your scraps for a quilt I'm working on, so please count me in! As for parties, I'm hosting one of my own this weekend. I think that it might be easier than your own, since instead of twelve little girls, I'll have twelve young twenty-somethings over. Though, now that I think about it, perhaps twelve little girls might be easier to handle than six slightly inebriated couples. They'll certainly have an earlier bedtime.
I wish you the best of luck with the slumber party! I have fond memories of similar parties from when I was a little girl. We would have pizza, watch a movie, paint each other's nails with terribly cheap nail polish that came in a paint bucket and then sleep dogpiled on the couch and floor in the family den. Years from now, I'm sure that your daughter will look back on her own sleepovers and remember how awesome her mother made them and how much fun she had.
I love all your different sized jars--very, very cool. Maybe if I win your scraps, it will be motivation to do something with my scraps. That should probably be some part of a New Year's resolution. Congrats on 500 posts! A-
Hi Dana,
Lovely scrap jar.... and yummy looking jams & jellies.
Homemade.. is just how it should be.
count me in..
eva
What a lovely jar to fill with scraps! Now do really think your going to have time to read our comments with 12 giggling, squealing girls staying over. Good luck with the slumber party and congrats on your 500th post.
I have started making my own jam since beginning of the year. Home made stuff is always outweighed commercial goods.
Any giveaway is good. It's fun to join in the fun.
oh my gosh. 12 giggling girlies.. only thing worse is 12 giggling teen BOYS...
Love the jar, love the scraps and congrats on 500 posts!
Lissa
Ah, Dana, believe it or not, the day will come when you look back and say "I miss those days!". Lovely way to display your scraps ... the jar itself is amazing! Throw my name in, please!
What a great jar!! Biggest I have ever seen! Good Luck to both of us!
What a great idea. I, too, am totally stealing it! I save the tiniest scraps (and do use them, often, what with a baby who loves dolls, tags, and clothy bits, so I'd love to have yours).
On the twelve little girls, i do feel your pain, but I am also just imagining the unbelievable amount of adorable.
what a cute idea to throw the scraps in a big jar
it looks so pretty
it would be really fun to make a quilt using these, I would love to win this scrap jar contents Thanks!!!
oh good luck with 12 girls been there done that! they will have a blast and your DD will have wonderful memories!
Kathie

I'd be tickled to win those scraps!
It's been a few years since our days of daughter's overnights, but as I recall they were big hits. Good luck with yours!
I would love the scraps!! Enjoy the chaos and the laughter; they grow up so fast...
oh, i love scraps, pick me! Good luck with all the kiddos. I had a sleepover when I was that age and my mother swears to me that she'll make me do the same thing when I have one that age. I think at that time my selective memory might pop in for a visit :)
Oh! I love scraps! I need those bad. Good luck on the sleep over. I have all boys which comes in handy with things like this. Boys+tent+backyard=quiet house!
Scraps in a canning jar is a great idea! I would love to win the scraps--and I might borrow that idea either way! :)
500 posts! WOW!
and i would love to win your scraps. :) i'd be sewing up a quilt as soon as they arrived at my doorstep. :) i made two blocks that may be "string" blocks . . . they need some friends so they can turn into a quilt. ;)
May I have your scraps?
oh wow - I would love those scraps!!!
oooh scraps are fun!
Have a grand time with the sleep-over! and congratulations on your 500th post.
I want it! I want it! Thanks for sharing.
That is so generous of you to give away your scraps! I'm newer to the sewing world and as I read blogs and see everyone's project ideas I'm amazed at the creativity! I would love to be the one who "wins" your scraps so that I can try a little creativity of my own!
Oh - what fun it would be to make a scrap from YOUR fabric!
Congrats on your 500th post!
ooohh scraps. Junk to some but treasure to others. What a fun giveaway.
Congrats on 500 posts! Have fun at the party! I remember what it was like having slumber parties as a girl! Thanks for the chance to win such a cool prize!
I'll take your scraps, or you jam anytime you wanna send it my way.
mmmmmm jam, I think I'm gonna go make some toast.
Good luck with the party. I only have boys, so I don't know the chaos girls can make. I would LOVE to win your scraps!
I'd love them. U use such lovely fabrics I'm sure they r awesome!
Who can't use more scraps??? I sure can!
congratulations on your 500th!! wow!
Yay for 500 posts! And your fabric scraps are yummy! You really are brave for having 12 girls at your house. My three make enough chaos :) If you need a break, just go pet some fabric, that always helps me!
NO WAY SHUT UP! I would FAINT if you picked me!! (But I'd quickly revive and then piece the HECK outta those SCRAPS!)
Happy Friday!! Happy Weekend! Happy Birthday Slumber Party!
Jackpot! Your stuff is always so great, I bet that jar is full of neat stuff.
12 girls at a sleep over? Good luck!!
raygon0326atyahoodotcom
I have a large jar like that as well, but mine holds chocolate chips. Equally delicious! I'd love those scraps - such fun to play with.

Hello, I'd love some scraps. I don't quilt enough to build up much scraps, But I'd love to have an excuse to quilt some more.
Hello, I'd love some scraps. I don't quilt enough to build up much scraps, But I'd love to have an excuse to quilt some more.
oh my gosh, I am with you, I have 6 7 year old boys at my house for a birthday slumber party.good luck to both of us. Love the scrap jar-so cute!!
oh...a jar of fun scraps...i'd love to win that...
and best of luck with the sleepover!!
I'd love to have the jar! :) Mason jars always remind me of my childhood on the farm, early fall/late summer and my mom and grandma canning beans and strawberry jam in the HOT kitchen in our old farmhouse. And we enjoyed it all winter long. I'd love the scraps.
Does that jar say Fig Peach? Oh, my, that sounds delicious! Never had any of that. My favorite is strawberry rhubarb jam.
Okay, on to fabric. I think I'll start putting my scraps in a big old crock that belonged to my grandparents. My grandfather used to make things like grape or dandelion wine in it. Storing fabric in it is more me! lol
I would love the scraps as I don't believe I have enough of my own for the a scrappy spiderweb I've sketched out and cant wait to start!!!
Scraps would be nice. Im new to the quilting game and dont really have any. :)

Oh how thrilling. When I first saw the jar I was thinking,oh I have to do that!!! And then to hear/read that you were giving away the scraps...well...count me in!!!! thank you so much for the chance.
And as I have 2 girls myself, I wish you all the patience in the world this weekend, LOL. May those high pitch girlie squeals turn to the soft cooing of a morning dove in your ears. (Just don't sit in the corner cooing to yourself ok?)
Have fun!
