You're nine

This weekend you grabbed me by shoulders and looked me square in the eye and said, "Mom!  In one more year I will be the big ONE OH!"

You were serious.  And excited.  And I might have giggled more than a little.

I giggled for several reasons.  One, because it was funny.

But I also giggled because you are racing at the speed of light toward a destination of grow-up-ed-ness and the fact that today you are nine seems impossible to me.  After all, in nine short years you have gone from porcelain pink baby to dancing, singing and climbing young girl.  Your rhythm and timing for both physical and spoken comedy and dance is uncanny.  You can contort your eyebrows in inconceivable ways to get a laugh.  And you know precisely the moment to turn off the funny and inquire, console or listen to anyone that needs it.

My heart expanded inside of my chest the day you were born and has continued to do so each and every day since.  You fill our family with love, joy and some form of constant entertainment.

And you totally and completely enchant me.

It's true that you will soon be the big ONE - OH but lets not rush it, eh?  Nine suits you just fine.

Love,
Mom

Your daughter is lovely. Did you knot her sweater? Nine is a wonderful age for a girl...tell her not to wish it away.
