And so it begins part II

Early last year we began the slow process of remodeling the master bedroom and bathroom.  Back then it was new windows for the bedroom.

This past weekend finally ushered in phase II of the arduous process.

A real window.

Properly framed out no less!

Much improved lighting.

Please try to contain your jealously over the current totally awesome ceiling.  I know it will be hard but try your best.

Goodbye ugly ceiling!

Over the next month this ceiling will carry over into the bedroom, be primed and painted a milky shade of white.  This same wood will also be installed as flooring throughout and stained a dark, dark brown.  New paint and moulding throughout and the hardest parts will finally be over. Yahoo!

So, here's where I need some help.  The bedroom will be painted a light shade of gray.  What about the bathroom?  What is a flattering color to use in a bathroom space?  Flattering?  You know, so that when I look into the mirror I'm not ashy looking.  Or jaundiced.  Or any other icky thing.

What color should we paint this bathroom?

Oh wow its going to be beautiful!
Well gold is very flattering to the face.....not shiny gold but a rich shade of gold.

Oh I love forward to seeing it all done.

Happy Spring even if it is snowing here!

ooh! i don't know about the old ceiling, but i have serious window jealousy :-)

it's going to be gorgeous. i'll think on the color and get back to you.... and, when i figure it out, i'll paint my bathroom too. maybe i should just paint the mirror ;-)

Lookin' good! LOVE the new ceiling! That is going to be fantastic!
Colors...there are so many great ones out there! Maybe a light lavender, but along the gray scale, to go with your bedroom. But then a pretty pale chartreuse green would look pretty too. Again, I'm thinking of what would look nice with the gray in your bedroom. I'm sure whatever you decide on it will look great! You are so good with color!

I love your transformations! I want to buy an old house and redo it too.....but we need to move some where else to do that! I really love the new window and ceiling! Make sure to show the finished product too!

It's going to be so pretty when it's all done!
hmmm colours, I personally love green in bathrooms but I'm not so convinced that is a flattering colour. When it comes to lighting all cool colours are particularly unflattering. So how about a nice golden yellow, goes well with grey too and you will look radiant no matter how early you have to get up :-)

Lovely!!! We have those same ceilings throughout our house, except that those peaks are almost in a floral pattern. I know it would be a nightmare to sand them off and replaster-- so I love your idea to cover them up with the wood paneling.

I want to paint our bedroom grey but I am having trouble finding just the right one. Any suggestions? Right now the closest I can come to a sample is the cardboard back of an old tablet...They say grey is the new neutral but I can't believe how hard a time I've been having finding one! I love wood on a ceiling =-)

I like a lighter or darker shade of the same gray...with big fluffy white towels and some fun art/accessories in vibrant colors. That way, you have flow between the rooms, and accessories can change when the season (or mood) strikes!

WOW the ceiling in wood. I want to ask about your hardwood floors. I so want them in my house. I go look and I become even more confused. If you have a minute could you tell me about your wood ... I love the idea of the dark stain.

I'd go one shade darker in the bathroom. Grey is such a wonderful color.

What about a bright green?!!

OWOW, REAL Windows! I'm so jealous! Mine are just this side of historic, LOL!

Tough call - I'd be tempted to go with something pastel-ish since you're a pink kinda gal (your skin I mean). A peach on the bold side would go OK with grey and flatter; but the lighting will probably do more for your loveliness than the paint will!

A very pale grey would be nice and will go with everything.

Hmm I'd say a really light apple colour, very calming.

no idea about the bathroom color, but we're painting our bedroom grey this week, too! what shade are you going with? i'm hitting up dunn-edwards tomorrow to get my paint. we're also doing a pair of yellow horizontal stripes at the top of the walls. have fun!

oh! and our bathroom will eventually be raspberry with the same grey from the bedroom as the stripes.

So jealous of your handy husband! I see the green mentioned several times above and agree..we have a light/bright green and I really like it.

Pink. My guest bathroom is pink, my son hates it but agrees he always looks good.

When I painted my bed/bath I played it safe and stuck with the same color for both (bedford grey) and added an accent wall in the bathroom. Sorry that came out all about me but I guess sticking with grey would be my suggestion.

Fun! Well, the planning part at least. I really like coral and grey together lately. I think that coral flatters a lot of people, too. The thick molding around the window looks great.

i'm with Reece.... a bright green.... almost a (light) lime green...... fresh looking, will go well with your skin colouring, and razor's too. and won't clash with the grey.....

i'm sticking to "fresh"

If you're looking for a color that will be flattering to your complexion I would recommend a pale pink.

I love blue for a bathroom. Not turquoise, or baby blue but a nice perfect blue. Yeah, not so clear, eh? :) It is going to look amazing!

I can't believe you are planting already. I have at least another month to think about it.

KittyAnn said...

I wish I had the energy to even start on my master bath, it has the same turquoise as yours and I am so over that color! LOL! And you are lucky to have a window, I have none. Have the same ceiling, what were the builders thinking when they used that stuff?!

I found a shower curtain that I love, it has deep golds, lighter to medium yellows, navy, heather and dark raspberry. I am going to try the technique of "ragging" to get the effect I want. I will use deep raspberry as the base coat and 'rag' over with medium old gold and medium navy. Here is a great color tool:
http://www.perbang.dk/color+scheme/

Click on the 'color scheme' tab, then move the little black circles around on the color wheel till you find a base color you like, then choose one of the items from the drop down list and hit go. You'll get chips of all the colors that will go with your base color.
Have fun! Ani

The colors in your dresden plate block might serve as inspiration for a gray room.

Hi,
We just did ours in a light greyish blue. It was from the Affinity collection-Solitude. We chose it in a "pearl" finish Very serene and lovely. Did our trim and painted our 80's oak cabinet White Dove. Thrilled with the results! And it was a very fun color to match with fabric for the curtains!

PS
Make sure you don't shower in the bathroom for a loooong time (we wait two weeks just in case) we've had it happen before when the paint "Streaks." so sad.
