Dancing!

These past couple of days have rushed by in a blur.

For the girls and I were lucky enough to travel to Kentucky to participate in the 75th Annual Mountain Folk Festival. We danced till our feet hurt.  And then we danced some more.  We were invited to go with my friend Tipper and her girls. And those young whipper snappers did this foot tapping clogging routine and kept on dancing even though the music gave them fits.  Yeah for that!

Tipper explains this festival far better than I.  She talks about it's history, importance and relevance to today's youth.  All I know is that Boo and Licious enjoyed dancing with a gym full of other kids.

I seemed to enjoy the square dancing the best.  In fact, I have one that keeps running through my head . . . You allemande left your corner, then you right hand to your own . . .strangely it isn't as good as when Bob calls it.

The people we met, music we heard, dances we danced and friends we made will be remembered for years to come.

This is so much fun to watch! Your girls do a great job.
I taught K-6 music for many years and one of the favorite activities was square dancing. Even the "I hate music" boys liked it:)

Oh, what fun! How refresshing... I tap danced as a kid so this brought a smile to my face. We had square dancing every Friday afternoon at school when we were in 6th grade. It was one of the things kids (read: girls, not boys!)looked forward to while younger than 6th grade =-) I loved my 'twirly' skirt my mom made me specially for that...

So curious! I've read your blog for quite some time but have never commented, HOWEVER, you captured my daughter in your last video! She's wearing a long green skirt, white blouse with a brown sash, and has short hair. And my son recognized one of your daughters from the dance when we scrolled down a few posts. He danced with her!

oh there you go again - pulling at my heart stings and reviving all my years gone by memories of growing up clogging. I was the same age as your youngest when I got started at age 8 and clogged until I left for college at 18.

OH how I'd love to get back into it. We use travel to Sommerset, KY and Danville and Lexington to take special clogging workshops and do competitions.

ok. I confess. after watching your video again.. I googled clogging and came to a site that has tons of "Cue Sheets" which just looking thru the song titles brought back many memories. I had an brilliant memory like I assume most kids do when cloggin and never ever used the cue sheets or learned what all the abreviations meant... however my mom had a fat 3 ring binder full of them and could not learn a dance without them.

This was one of our favorites "Ghost Busters!!" http://www.clogdancing.com/cuesheets/pdf/Ghostbusters-SS.pdf

Do they even still teach this? Of course we thought we were so cool clogging to "Get Outta My Dreams and Into My Car" but I couldn't find that one listed.

Thanks for sharing and bringing back many good memories Dana!

Love from Texas!! ~bonnie

oh dear! I just looked up clogging on youTube! Specifically "Old Time Rockin Roll"

What a cute couple version here - wish we had thought to pair up like this. Maybe your girls already know it? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f_vuQUJmv5A

OK I promise I'll stop posting comments. For now... lol
