We are blacksmiths . . . sorta.

Friends of ours are blacksmiths.

Yep.  Professional full-time blacksmiths.

I know, right?  So freakin' cool!

They invited a few families over for some blacksmithing instruction and hands-on experience.

She felt goofy in the safety glasses so kept flashing me goofy faces.
And it was fascinatingly fun.

Thank you Lynda and Elmer for you time, talent, knowledge, supplies  . . .and patience.  We had a blast!  Not only did my girls learn about blacksmithing but they got to see your passion for your art.  They got to see that growing up and working doesn't have to mean a 9-5 job behind a desk.  And they got to see that art is work and work is art.

Blacksmithing is one of those extraordinarily cool arts/trades. So neat that they got a chance to do it for themselves!

Awesome! I have always wanted to learn how to do that. My grandpa used to work for Revere in upstate NY and when he finished his work he would make stuff like that....awesome!:)

that is SO cool. Reminds me there is a glass museum not too far from us here that we NEED to go to at some point. There is also a restored village near us with a working blacksmith and a whole bunch of other old time goodness. I need to make some plans!

oh, and being able to just cross ONE eye? THAT is an art in itself. I'm jealous.

That part about the growing up and working doesn't have to mean 9 to 5 behind a desk and art is work and work is art - AMEN SISTER!!
