Letter from American Red Cross Regarding Tornado Relief

Back in May you all so generously donated your money towards the tornado relief effort in Joplin, MO.  I finally received the acknowledgement letter from American Red Cross and, as promised, am sharing it here.

The letter says in part:

Your gift of $3,500.00 on 6/10/2011 to the Joplin Tornado Relief has helped and will continue to help the Red Cross assist those in need following this destructive tornado.  As of July 29, we have served over 449,000 meals and snacks, sheltered 3,450 people, supplied 205,799 bulk items including cleanup and comfort kits and provided health services to over 5,835 in addition to mental health support to 6,778.

We helped do that.  Together.

And although my husband's family was unharmed, this small act from each of us when grouped collectively together, touched them deeply.

Thank you friends.

Wow, that is amazing, Dana. I'm from California and some friends were on a road trip and happened to pull of the road on May 22nd to spend the night in Joplin. What a story they had to tell. Thank you for your part in this huge donation.

You got me sniffing....they did a piece on the news the other day about a guy there that has a resturant and offered up the apt upstairs to this lady that has a business that was destroyed and all the other stuff he and his family has done...sounds like Joplin is a great place to live!

Can it really only be weeks since the tornado happened? The recovery has only just begun, but glad to know the help given was so appreciated! Thanks for sharing.

I recently saw an update on Joplin, the kids getting ready for the new school year in trailers provided by FEMA because 7 schools have been destroyed. the kids were so happy to see their teachers and each other
they had no closure for their school year other than having their town torn apart. It was wonderful to see the strong community there pulling together and looking forward not backwards. Thank for organizing your fund drive and letting us know we helped a little.

It reminds us to count our blessings too :0)

Happy Sewing
