Singer Featherweight 221

The most surprising thing happened.

On January 12, 2014 I posted a silly little thing on Facebook where I said:

Need help from any of my sewing friends.... Will any one of you knock some sense into me and tell me to get over my obsession and unnecessary want of a vintage Singer Featherweight sewing machine? Please? I need one like I need another hole in my head but can't stop wanting one.

Later that day I got a private message from a friend offering to trade (::gulp::) a Singer Featherweight 221 for one of my quilts.

Trade.  You heard me right.

And the sweet, sweet soul that offered up this trade is my friend Elaine.

Then on January 20, 2014 the above pictured gem was delivered to my house.

It's been sitting on my kitchen counter since Monday and it's like I don't dare touch it.  It sits there prettily and I just look at it with awe.  The awe is one part admiration of it's beauty and ninety-nine parts amazement at the generous, giving, trusting spirit of Elaine.

I've said it before and I'm going to say it again.  Quilters are the nicest people in the universe.

Enjoy the darling featherweight.

So tickled you have one. Now to wait and see what you see with it.

No featherweight for me but I have the 160th anniversary version.

I keep telling myself I don't need an 8th machine.....really I don't but am I listening? lol

How sweet! I am obsessed with them, too! They are very hard to find around here and when I do find one it is really expensive and in terrible shape. I even have hubby looking for one for me!

Lucky you!

Congrats and good trade! I have one just like yours, inherited it from MIL, and I've never even plugged it in, I just have it on display in the guest room, on a treadle table. They are lovely little machines!

I have three featherweights but I still would have traded a quilt for the fourth one.

Squee!
I've been wanting a treadle Singer for ages. Two days after a friend busted one up she discovered that I had been lusting after one for ages.
I couldn't believe she broke the thing up - destroyed the cabinet, everything... sigh. She could've mentioned it to me - she's tried to pass on so many other things to me!

You are going to love this little beauty. I have my grandmother's and I learned to sew on it. Your quilts are well worth the trade. I think you both got a good deal. Friends are a blessing indeed.
