Gradation

Sometimes I have a plan in mind when I sit down to sew. I will have sketched an idea and figured out how much fabric I will need. I say sometimes, but if I think about it, I really mean most of the time that's how I work. I like having a plan and then seeing it take shape. However, with this quilt I didn't have a preconceived plan. I just started cutting 3.5" squares and started sewing. In order to get the gradation of color, I did eventually have to put a plan into place. But it was so nice to just start. I just started sewing and explored where it took me.

I enjoyed the journey.

And the result.

It's great! Reminds me just a tiny bit of the fruit stripe gum. ;)

It looks like shafts of sunshine 😊 it's fun to break of a familiar routine to see what happens, and it must feel fantastic when something as lovely as this happens!

Really nice Dana! Might be fun to make one using Vanessa Christensen's new gradations line!

Hi Dana,
I wrote a post about how I go about designing my quilts on the quilting directory site, Quilting Focus. I also linked to you, and your guest blog post on Martingale about where you find your ideas and how you turn them into quilt designs because it was such a great post.
Cheers,
Charlotte from Quilting Focus
