I'm giving away these books. This set is a collection called One World, One Planet and includes books, music and activities.
Why?
Cause it is Thanksgiving. And almost Christmas. And I love them. And because, like I have said a thousand times before, if you want our children to save the world you have to teach them to love the earth.
And, Rebecca of Barefoot Books is offering Old Red Barn Co. readers 10% off if you use code SCSTHE at checkout. So really, everyone is a winner!!
Leave a comment to this post to enter. I will use the random number generator thingy-ma-bob to choose a winner next Tuesday, December 2, 2008.
Earlier this Fall I began a year long virtual quilting bee. Say what? Well, 17 women from across the country are participating and we each have an assigned month where we send out fabric to the other 16 ladies for them to make a quilt block and send back to us. At the end of your assigned month you will then receive 16 finished quilt blocks to assemble into a quilt. I had the month of September and have received almost all of my blocks back. This is one.
These two blocks are the ones I've made for the October and November ladies. They sent the fabric and some general requests as to what they had in mind for the blocks. The first one is being made for a boy who loves all things Army so it will be all green and red.
The second was a great blend of orange and brown fabrics.
Finally, just want to share a recent fabric find from the local thrift shop.
Can you feel the love? I hope so because I'll be starting a book bundle giveaway tomorrow. Ever heard of Barefoot Books? I love these books because they combine art and story seamlessly. And, the pack I'm giving away is especially appropriate this time of year . . . One World, One Planet. 'Cause I'm all crunchy, granola-y, earth loverly like that.
. . . since the day I first saw your big brown eyes.
I'll never forget that day seven whole years ago. I started having contractions on November 21st but they were sporadic and totally manageable. I knew you were coming but I didn't tell anybody yet.
After the sun set I told Daddy that I was going for a walk. Our neighborhood was full of extra people in for the holiday. The houses were lit and I could hear laughter and joy in many that I passed.
On that walk I talked to you. I told you how much I loved you. I told you how anxious I was to meet you. I told you to be patient with us as we made the transition of having you -- a new baby; a new person; a new sister -- in our family. I told you that it was Thanksgiving and what that meant. I told you that I was ready for you when you were ready to join us. And, I told you that this Thanksgiving I was extra grateful for you.
Seven whole years ago I went back home after that walk and told Daddy that you were coming. We started timing the contractions and called Nana to tell her that we would probably be going to the hospital sometime in the night. Nana came to stay with your sister.
Seven whole years have passed since we arrived at the hospital in the wee hours of the morning on Thanksgiving.
Seven whole years since the doctor asked if your Daddy wanted to deliver you.
Seven whole years since he did.
Seven whole years have passed in the blink of an eye.
And I'm just as grateful for you today as I was seven whole years ago.
Happy Birthday Licious.
Thank you for sharing your inexplicable joy and contagious giggle with us everyday. Thank you for your spontaneous dance performances and wide eyed beautiful grins. Thank you for your thirst for knowledge, appetite for competition and zest for life. Thank you for your newly contrived yoga poses (can you say downward facing dog while brushing your hair?). Thank you for reminding us about simple things we sometimes forget . . . like how the wind feels on your cheek and how little bubbles float up your body when you jump into a swimming pool.
(There was a glitch the other day when many of you tried to order this. So, I'm posting it again.)
You guys have helped me grow my business in 2008 and so this is my thanks to you!
The set includes one sugar scrub and one goat milk soap in the cutest red and white polka dotted box with white, green and red snowflake tissue paper and red curling ribbon. You may choose either Chestnuts & Brown Sugar or Peppermint Creme. All cutely packaged and ready for gift giving!
Chestnut & Brown Sugar is a sweet buttery accord with nuances of nuts and a heart of vanilla backed up by maple notes. An Old Red Barn Co. holiday favorite for years.
Peppermint Creme is new this holiday season and has been my favorite for months. Refreshing peppermint surrounded by smooth, creamy vanilla. Dude. I cannot get enough of this stuff.
I'm only making 100 of these special edition holiday gift sets. They are $20.00 each plus a flat rate US Priority Mail shipping rate of $9.80. Available for US shipping locations only. PayPal payments only.
Oh, and it will include the cutest little Old Red Barn Co. 1 inch round magnet.
So, back in March of this year an esteemed professor from MIT devised a spreadsheet type system for calculating and determining extra entries and such for my quilt giveaways. Using the mathematical formula the professor gave me, there were 14,173 entries into this quilt drawing.
::blink:: ::blink:: What?
Ok. So it was my husband who devised the system. Did it make it seem more official when it was the MIT punk?
On to the good stuff.
The above Sugar Snap quilt goes to Comment number 58 angoraknitter
The above Nest quilt goes to number 12,008 which corresponds to comment number 886 Shorty.
And the beautiful pink one above goes to comment number 1438 Kim and Jim.
The two quilt pattern winners (remember, 4th and 5th place winners win a Candy Bar Road quilt pattern from SuzGuz Designs??) are comment number 1 ambwee and comment number 1790 tracy . . . cause you know no self respecting random number generator thing-a-ma-bob is going to pick the very first or the very last number.
Congratulations winners. Email within .00004709 seconds of me posting this or you forfeit your prize and I get to keep it.
Just kidding. Email at dana@oldredbarnco.com within .00005 seconds or I keep it.
JaneyJoop may have a future in film . . .or at least give Hanna Montana a run for her money!
Man, I wanna be Crystal!
I wonder how Sharee knew this was one of my favorite songs of all time.
Kimberly and her dog really do need a new quilt. Good luck!
Being a mom of a baby is tough work but Heather seems to be handling Evander just fine.
Finally, being a cat lover I really like how these cats can so easily communicate with their owner. I wish mine would shake their heads yes or no.
The contest will end tonight at 7:00pm US EST. But I won't be home. And, it won't be until tomorrow that I post the winners. I want to ship these quilts to their new homes by Wednesday. So I can stop staring at them. So I can stop scheming ways to keep them. . . so . . . so . . .so I can end my state of abject forlornness over having to part with them.
This amazing gift set is only available to my blog readers. You guys have helped me grow my business in 2008 and so this is my thanks to you!

ETA: Sorry so many of you had problems emailing us. Something about a full inbox or something. Pa-leeeease!
Anyhow, I think that is fixed and we are back in business!
Here is Trish with some cute limericks. I love how she giggles over the second one!
And check out these cute brothers.
This one come from My Greening. I love how he keeps looking at Mom. So sweet.
And seriously. How cute are these two?
This one too. I mean seriously. How stinkin' cute!
Brrrr. I get cold just watching this one.
Over the last several posts I've put up all the video entries that I know about. If you've made one and it hasn't been featured here shoot me an email so that I can embed it here. Also, if I haven't linked to your blog with your video it is because I don't know where to link to. If you want linked up please send me an email with your info. And if you already have and I've overlooked it . . . well . . . I profusely apologize. My inbox has been inundated and I must not have seen it. One thing you can be sure of though, each video entrant has earned their 50 extra entries!!
There haven't been many video entries yet. I'm hoping that this weekend brings out the inner Tim Burton, Francis Ford Coppola or Woody Allen in some of you.
However, it may be worth your time to view these videos first. These brave souls made videos about the contest and in doing so have each earned FIFTY extra entries!
Wanna let your inner Stephen Spielberg give it a whirl? Please do. . . and remember to title it http://oldredbarnco.blogspot.com so I (and others) can easily find them.
Dude. I see Oscar worthy material there.

P.S. I'm turning of the comments to this post. But you can always email me at dana@oldredbarnco.com.
******** TIME'S UP! I'LL ANNOUNCE THE LUCKY WINNERS TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 18, 2008!********
I'd like to give these three different quilts to three different winners.
Um . . . Er. . . Well, let me rephrase that . . .
I'm going to give these three different quilts to three different winners.
I've talked about them all before but let me do a little run down. The first up is made from the new line of fabric called Sugar Snap from Melissa Averinos for Free Spirit. You'll remember that she (as in the fabric designer herself Melissa!) generously gave me the fabric specifically for this give away. She sent it when I was the busiest with my soap company and stuff so in order to make all this work a lovely friend of mine actually made the quilt. Her name is Anne and she does impeccable work. And, since after every quilt giveaway I get a slew of requests to replicate the giveaway quilt, Anne is willing and able to do that for anyone who wants one. How stinkin' cool is that? If your interested email me and I'll get you in contact with Super Quilter Extraordinaire Anne!
Did I mention the Sugar Snap quilt measures 53 x 63 and is 100% cotton? I've washed and dried it to give it that crinkly, wrinkly look that I love. It's so incredibly my style and whoever wins it is one lucky duck for sure.
I've spoken some about the middle quilt as well. It is made with fabric from Moda by their uber-talented designer Tula Pink. Remember she signed a bit of her Nest fabric and sent it to my long arm quilter Russ? That hand signed bit of fabric is IN this quilt!
Ladies and gentlemen, a big round of applause for Susan Guzman!
And just so you know, the Nest quilt measures 56 x 64 and it too has already been washed and dried for that lovely aged affect. Rest assured, however, that in case it arrives at your house smelling like the fried chicken we had for dinner last Sunday you are perfectly safe to throw it in the washing machine and drier.
Last, but certainly not least is this 45 inch square quilt. It too is 100% cotton and washed and ready for use.
It was designed and made by the talented Kari Ramsay from Fresh Cut Quilt Pattern Company. The fabric selection is killer and Wendy Nabhan quilted it beautifully. Boo and Licious have hosted several tea parties on this lovely little quilt and will hate to see it go.
But go it must! Now back to scrubbing the floors and cleaning the chimney girls! No time for tears! I've got a contest to start!
How to enter? Leave a comment to this post.
Wanna earn extra entries? There are THREE different ways to increase you chances.
First, blog about my give away. Snag any of the photos here to put in your blog post. Blog it. Twitter it. Facebook it. Do any of that and it gives you FIVE extra entries.
Second, put the above button in the sidebar of your blog. Simply copy and paste the text in the box below and put it in your sidebar. Dude! That earns you FIVE more entries. Now you're up to TEN.
Third, make a video and upload the video to YouTube with the title being the link to my blog (so title it, "http://oldredbarnco.blogspot.com"). Make it about why you wanna win a quilt. Make it funny. Making and uploading a video earns you FIFTY extra chances!
I'll close the contest at 7:00pm US EST on Monday, November 17, 2008. International entries welcome. ALL winners will be selected by random draw. The video entries earn an extra 50 chances but it still remains random. If I had to choose by merit then I'd never, ever in a billion years be able to choose a winner. I'd be up for the rest of my life making quilts for each and every one of you. And who would feed and clothe my children? And more importantly, who would supervise them on the whole floor scrubbin' thing?
Good luck!

Check this!! My friend Tipper's exceptionally talented family made this video. Listen closely cause they are singing about DANA'S QUILTING PARTY!!!
I am loving all of the video entries so far and plan to feature them all here eventually. If you want yours to be linked to you and your blog, etc. then let me know in an email. dana@oldredbarnco.com
ETA: If you are still feeling the quilty love then head over to Camille's blog cause she is giving away a quilt too. And she is gonna custom make it for the winner with one of her own patterns. Dude! Check out her blog Simplify . . . it is a feast for the eyes and your fabric lovin' heart!
Now, adventure racing is not a spectator sport. Those crazy cats cover miles and miles of terrain and short of being in a helicopter there is no way to follow the race live as it happens. But, we were soooo at the finish line. And LOOK!! Here he comes now!!
You'll have to excuse Razor. He is not normally this loopy. However, he has been racing non-stop for over 28 hours and is a bit tired. And hungry. And dirty. And, I hate to mention this part but I'm just keeping it real . . .well . . . he is really stinky. (I love you honey. Now go take a shower.)
Way to go Eddie, Jen and Razor! You guys are the reason I haul my tail to the gym each day.

P.S. I had every intention of starting the big three quilt giveaway here tomorrow. However, I've been called to substitute teach so it will have to wait until Tuesday.
There is no better place to be on election night than at the Associated Press Washington Bureau offices in Washington, D.C. Thrilling, remarkable and electrifying barely scratch the surface.
After the video cast that ended at around 1:30am EST a few of us headed back to the hotel lounge. That is Lisa from Michigan on the left, Kris from Texas in the middle and Renee from Virginia on the right.
The events from the day, evening and early morning hours had left us hyped and we just weren't ready for it all to end.
Neither was D.C. When we stepped out of the AP building in the early morning hours of November 5th, D.C. was alive and ready to celebrate. Car horns honked. People shouted and chanted. Strangers high-fived on the city streets.
I felt proud to be an American. I felt lucky to be part of such an historic event.
Despite going to bed at 3:30am I awoke early so that I could see as much of Washington, D.C. before my flight left later that day.
I schlepped it up and down those city streets. And I took more photos than you would ever want to see here.
The whirlwind trip has left my Chuck Taylors in need of new tread!
And that is fine by me cause I feel like I've seen the world.
I live in the country. Or as the politicians call it "Rural America". I'm talkin' backwoods. Boondocks. Hinterland. I'd have to walk through many a corn field or cow pasture to find "Main Street". Basically, I live in the boonies.
But some excitin' stuff is happenin' here in the sticks. (By the way, I feel the need to drop my g's just to give you the full sense of how country I am.)
I'm off to Washington, D.C. to be part of a panel of American voters for the Associated Press. Remember when I told you all about thisbefore?
Well, I am one of those pollsters you read about in newspapers. Ya know . . . "according to the AP/Yahoo News poll . . .". I'm one of two thousand Americans that those Yahoos, er . . . um . . . I mean news organizations have been following regarding the Presidential campaign since last November. And, they have invited a few of us to be part of an online streaming video cast during election night.
So, please go here Tuesday evening to watch. I really have no idea what I'll be doing. Well, I have some idea. I mean I know I won't be at a round table with current world leaders. And, I know that I won't be picking my nose. But anything in between is really fair game. Won't you please check it out? Please?
And if that isn't exciting enough for this backwoods family, Razor is racing in the NATIONAL championship adventure race this weekend! Dude! The top 100 teams in the nation will be battling it out and my little smoochie-dupie-do is one of them. I'm so proud.
But wait there is more.
Those three quilts pictured are the three quilts I'm giving away! I'm sewing the binding on the first one pictured and as soon as that is done the contest will begin. I'm shooting for next Monday.
::Ommmmmm:: ::Ooooommmmm:: I'm in a yoga pose practicing deep breathing and careful meditation.
